Hitachi 55VG825 Rear Projection LCD HDTV

The Hitachi 55VG825 is a 55” HDTV using LCD technology to give a crisp and smooth image. The set is from Hitachi’s Ultravision CineForm Line. The set has a black metallic finish, which gives it a rich feel. The input and control buttons are present on the side of the monitor and not in the front, which could have been a distraction. The depth of the set is as usual less the 18”, which offers remarkable savings in terms of space.

The picture quality is excellent. The native resolution of the set is 1280 X 720. The digital comb filter is used to filter out annoying dots or any other interference. 3:2 pull down processing is provided for viewing film content. There are separate settings provided for day and night viewing which adjust automatically depending upon the light intensity in the room. A special black and white setting is also there for viewing black and white movies.

Two stereo speakers are also attached to the monitor. These speakers generate 40 watts of power giving excellent sound quality. These internal speakers can also be used as the central channel of the home theatre system. A two way mute has also been provided. The presence of the cable card slot makes the need of any additional set top boxes unnecessary.

Split screen viewing is also another advantage of the Hitachi 55VG825. The USB port is a useful addition, which enables the user to directly view the data from his digital camera. The universal remote of the Hitachi 55VG825 is remarkably simple to use. Though the cost of the set is higher than most other same sized LCD RP HDTV’s the quality does make it worth it.
