The Samsung HL-S7178W is a 71” (diagonally measured) high definition TV using DLP technology. The rear projection TV set provides a display resolution of 1920 X 1080 at 1080p with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The aspect ratio is an important feature which is used while viewing widescreen videos or movies. The set is just 20.43” deep and weighs slightly less than 130 pounds which is quite creditable considering the size of the set.
The black cabinet of the set looks very sleek and has a very small frame around the picture.
Samsung is one of the frontrunners in the use of DLP technology and has created the Cinema Smooth light engine which delivers extremely sharp pictures even at 1080p. The colors produced by the 5 segment color wheel of the set are rich and vivid and give the viewer an ultimate viewing experience. A three line digital comb filter is used to eliminate any visual interference.
Two built in speaker are attached to the cabinet and produce a total output of 20 watts (10 X 2) to give excellent sound quality. The speakers also have surround sound qualities which further enhances the sound quality. The Samsung HL-S7178W uses a user replaceable Samsung lamp number BP96-01472A which is reported to have a life of about 8000 to 10000 hours which will last the user for a couple of years depending upon the hours of daily usage.
