Samsung HLP5063W shut down

I’ve got a Samsung HLP5063W in service since January 2005 with 10,600 hours on the original lamp (smaller square lamp). About a month ago it started shutting down about 1-2 times a week. It came right back up when turned back on. This week, it’s shutting off every 20-40 minutes. It comes back up instantly when re-powered. All through-out this, the picture has been crystal clear, so I wonder if it is really the lamp that needs to be replaced.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks, Bill.

My Samsung HLR5064w started to shut off once or twice a week also. My lamb had 11,500 hrs on it so I thought it was the lamp at fault and replaced it.the tv continued to shut itself off and got more frequent as time went by. I had purchased an extended warranty at the time of puchase( november 2005)so I called and they sent a repairman. He replaced the ballast and the problem continued so he returned and took the TV to his shop. Just got it back (approx. 3 weeks later) invoice says he replaced the DMD PCB and the DMD IC. Seems to be working fine now. These parts were very expensive the DMD PCB was $501.26 , DMD IC was $269.45 and the ballast was $69.90. Nearly $850.00 just in parts is a lot considering in my local video store I can purchase A new Samsung 61 inch led dlp tv for about $1700.00 Canadian. Had it not been under warranty I probably would not have fixed it.

I have had the problem over a couple of months back in 07 and again lately. In 07 I did an exhaustive google search nad found the fix. This time I couldn’t find the fix but apparently was able to remember the fix by moving around a bit blindly in the TV.

This has to do with the heat sensor. If you remove the lamp access panel you will now have a 6 x 6 opening into the TV. In the bottom left there is a small piece of electronics with a small blue toggle switch. This needs to moved either up or down and than have the access panel reinstalled. Over time it gets out of position and the heat sensor becomes very sensitive and turns off the lamp too often.

Others have fixed the same problem by installing a fan behind the TV blowing on the back.

i have solved this problem, this is what happened on mine
    SAMGSUNG REAR PROJECTION TV
    SP-50L7HX
WORKS FINE FOR A WHILE GOOD PICTURE AND SOUND, THEN THE PROJECTOR LIGHT TURNS OFF AND SOUND GOES, NO WARNING LIGHTS ON FRONT PANEL,,THREE GREEN LIGHTS ON WHAT I THINK IS ANNOLOG BOARD STILL ALL ON AT THIS STAGE, THEN TWO TURN OFF AFTER A FEW SECKONDS AND TV RESTARTS FOR A FEW MINUITS THEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN.
how to fix.disconect all inputs arial scarts everything, this is very inportant.
    enter Service Mode Entry Method
    1. Turn off the power to make the SET STAND-BY mode.
    2. In order to enter the Service Mode, Press “INFO” → “MENU” → “MUTE” → “POWER” button on the Remote
    Control.
go into options no14 i think, reset bulb hours, then further down list press reset, this resets the whole tv and restartes, i set language but not time left at 00.00 has worked perfect ever since. good luck
