Viore DLP TV making Humming noise

We purchased the Viore DLP TV model # RPT50V24D  about a year and a half ago.  Just recently it started making a humming sound.  After taking it apart we noticed the sound is not coming from the lamp or the fans.  The part we think is humming has the part # of BP94-02263A (Samsung).  It is the part that the lamp plugs into but we do not know what it is.  Can anyone help?

  1. Well the part that the lamp plugs into is called ballast. But i have no idea if its supposed to make a noise or not. Am just letting you know its called ballast.

  2. Well, the ballast can make a few noises associated with the electrical components, but it shouldn’t make any *loud* humming noises. It’s possible to hear a low hum though. The humming is caused by magnetostriction, I believe–when electricity and magnetism cause components to vibrate… same thing when you hear a power transformer or a fluorescent light ballast.

  3. The part that you are refering to is the color wheel. It spins over 6000rpm and when it fails creates a lot of noise. Most likely the wheel is broke or has become unbalanced. It’s an easy replacement part and you can find them easily on ebay or other parts stores for around $80 – $100. Be careful with your new one. If it gets dropped or you touch the wheel itself it’s useless.

  4. yeah my dlp tv is making a humming sound, would that be cause by my other electrical componets such as: sound surround, receiver box, and tv’s in the next room?

  5. It sounds exactly like what I had with my,I know,Vivitek 51″DLP .At startup,it made a real whirring noise that settled into a hum that got louder.I bought a new color wheel and replaced it myself in about an hour.By the way, when I took the new color wheel out of the static-bag,it had dust or debris on it I tried to blow off with a can of air. Then some of the liquid came out onto the wheel.I got a Q-tip and squirted some windex on it and wiped the whole wheel with it and dried it with the dry end. I hated to do it,but I have not had any problems since.Once I opened the tv,it was neat to see what it looked like and pretty clear to see where I needed to get to and how to do it.Now,picture is great. Can’t even hear it start up and no humming…Nice!

  6. Hi Chris I have the same exact TV with the same exact problem. Can you tell me where to buy a color wheel and how much it costs.

    Thanks,
    Charlie

  7. I have the Vivitek 51″DLP as well. It appears that the humming noise is coming from the cooling fan.
I tried lubing it and it made it a little quiet for about an hour.
I jst ordered a new cooling fan. Hopefully that will correct the problem….
