Mercury better left inside

While it’s great for our projector lamps, mercury is a potent neurotoxin that needs to be recycled. It large doses mercury can effect  brain, liver and kidneys, and cause developmental disorders in children. When projector lamps are properly recycled, the mercury poses no threat. However, when thrown into regular garbage and sent to landfills, mercury is dangerous.

It leaches from the landfills into the groundwater eventually making its way into our drinking water. As it decomposes inorganic mercury in the landfill is converted into a more toxic form, called organic or methylated mercury and this can be released into the air.

      Hi M. Williams,
There are a number of places that will accept single projector lamps. First check with your local recycling center. If they accept other LED bulbs with mercury they will take your projector lamp. The website http://recycleyourlamp.org/consumer will take your projector back and give you a rebate. The http://www.lamprecycle.org/ lets you enter your zip code to find a recycling center near you. Also https://search.earth911.com/ will point you to companies locally that will take your lamp. You can also contact the manufacturer of your projector to see if they have a take back program. Thanks for recyling!
      Regards,
      Shelagh
