Installing the Optoma Home Theater HD2200 lamp

Before replacing the Optoma BL-FP230D follow these important safety tips:

  • Switch off the power to the Optoma Home Theater HD2200 projector by pressing the Power/Standby button.
  • Disconnect the power cord.
  • Allow the projector to cool down for at least 30 minutes. If should be cool to the touch. These projectors run using high temperatures and you can burn yourself badly if you don’t allow the projector to cool down.

1. Use a screwdriver to undo the two screws holding the lamp cover in place. The screws on the lamp cover and the lamp cannot be removed.

2. Remove the lid and place to one side. Don’t lose the lid as the Optoma HD2200 projector will not turn back on until the lamp cover has been properly installed.

3. Remove the two screws holding the Optoma BL-FP230D in place.

Note: The used BL-FP230D lamp contains mercury and should be properly recycled. Don’t throw it into regular garbage.

4. Lift up the wire handle on the Optoma BL-FP230D  lamp and slowly remove it from the projector.

5. Remove the new BL-FP230D (SP.8EG01GC01) from its packaging. Taking care not to touch the actual bulb, lift up the handle on the new lamp and insert it gently into the Optoma HD2200 projector.

6. Tighten the two screws on the lamp.

7. Replace the lamp cover and tighten its two screws. You are now ready to reset the Lamp Replacement Timer.

Reset the Lamp Replacement Timer

The Optoma HD2200 projector has an automatic lamp timer that tracks the numbers of hours left in the lamp. If you don’t reset the lamp replacement timer you run the risk of the lamp being used beyond its recommended life and possibly exploding in the projector.

  • Turn on the projector.
  • Press MENU.
  • Select SYSTEM.
  • Select Lamp Settings.
  • Select Lamp Reset.

Tips for extending projector lamp life:

  • Turn off Bright Mode to return to standard brightness and lower power consumption. This will exclude lamp life.
  • Keep your air filters clean to avoid overheating the projector.
  • Every 24 hours, turn off the projector and let it stand for 1 hour
  • Make sure there is enough airflow around the Optoma HD2200 projector particularly if it’s been permanently mounted.

You may be using a traditional data projector on a table, a short throw projector mounted on the ceiling or a rear-projection whiteboard. Despite the type of projector being used, there are still important safety conditions that should be followed. You want to maintain a healthy classroom that is safe for both you and your students.

Protecting eyesight

Projectors operate under using high intensity light and direct exposure can damage your retinas. While we do come equipped with an aversion reflex that makes us automatically turn away from the bright light, there is still a danger of peripheral overexposure.

Protective guidelines

  • Never stare directly into the projector beam
  •  Keep your back to the beam as much as possible
  • Avoid standing facing into the beam for more than a few seconds at a time
  • Always step outside the projector beam before turning to face the class

Important placements

Always encourage your students to get into the routine of walking up to the whiteboard outside of the beam and using it with their back to the class. There is no risk when standing outside the beam while facing the projector.

Even looking outside the projector beam is dangerous since our automatic aversion response doesn’t kick in thereby making it easier to stare at the light. It’s similar to staring onto the sun and experiencing overexposure to UV light.

Symptoms of eyestrain include feelings of burning, inflammation and sensitivity originating in the cornea. There is no risk to the eye standing outside the beam when facing in the direction of the projector. The recommended maximum exposure limit is currently set at 10-20 seconds.

A warning notice should be displayed prominently reminding students not to stare into the projector beam.

Important adjustments

Look for a projector that has a built in brightness adjustment or neutral density option. This can help reduce the light that leaks out the side of the projector. Some DLP projectors have a subtle rainbow banding effect that appears when you move your eyes side to side. This rainbow effect can cause eyestrain. Go for a 3-chip DLP to reduce the rainbow without having to produce more light.

You may want to consider a short-throw projector that can throw a large image in tight spaces and minimize the risk of people getting in front of the light beam. Most short-throw projectors need 3 to 6 feet while the ultra-short-throw projectors need only a few inches.

A ceiling mounted projector is the preferred position to reduce exposure to the light beam. Ultra-short throw projectors can also be mounted just above the screen thereby making it impossible to stare into the beam.

Use blinds in a bright room rather than increasing the brightness of the projector. Black out curtains can stop any glare on the screen and also reduce the need for intense lighting. A remote control device is also a good way to keep the user out of the projector beam.

Buy authentic

Another important consideration is the type of lamp used inside the projector. Genuine OEM PHILIPS projector lamps use UV coated reflectors allowing for a brighter and more vibrant picture. These reflectors reduce the harmful rays coming out of the projector and any possible eye damage. Counterfeit lamps have non-coated reflectors that allow the dangerous rays to be spread out into the classroom. Authentic projector lamps keep your classroom safer.

Don’t leave replacing the projector lamp to the last minute or the lamp may explode. Here’s what to do if that happens.

Installing the projector lamp

Before replacing the Sharp AN-XR30LP/1 projector lamp follow these important safety tips:

  • – Press STANDBY/ON on the projector or STANDBY on the remote control to put the projector into standby mode.
  • – Wait until the cooling fan stops.
  • – Disconnect the power cord.
  • – Unplug the power cord from the AC socket.

Take the new Sharp AN-XR30LP/1 projector lamp and align the tab on the lamp unit cover and place it while pressing the tab to close it. Be careful not to touch the actual bulb as the oil from your fingers left on the lamp will burn black holes onto the lamp that appear on screen.

Note: The used Sharp AN-XR30LP/1 projector lamp contains mercury and should be properly recycled. Don’t throw it into regular garbage.

Fasten the securing screws. Slide the lamp cage cover back on in the direction of the projector. Then tighten the user service screw.

Reset the lamp timer

To reset the Sharp PG-F150X projector lamp timer:

  • – While simultaneously holding down MENU/HELP, ENTER and the down arrow on the projector.
  • – Press STANDBY/ON on the projector.

  • Chose the ECO MODE mode to to dim the projector lamp and lower power consumption. This will extend the lamp life by up to 130%.
  • Keep your air filters clean to avoid overheating the projector.
  • Every 24 hours, turn off the projector and let it stand for 1 hour

Replacing the projector lamp

Follow these important safety tips before installing the new Mitsubishi VLT-HC2LP projector lamp:

  • Turn off the projector and unplug the AC cord.
  • The Mitsubishi LVP-XL1U projector should be cool to the touch before you replace the projector lamp. It usually takes one hour for the projector to fully cool since these projectors operate under high temperatures.
  • NOTE: Do not operate the projector while any of the lamps are removed as this may result in malfunctions and may be a fire hazard.

Caution: Avoid creating black spots on the projector lamp. Don’t touch the screen or the actual bulb with your finger or hands. Oil from your hands can damaged the lamp.

NOTE: The Mitsubishi VLT-HC2LP projector lamp contains mercury and should be recycled properly.

Gently maneuver it into place. Avoid touching the glass or the bulb. The lamp should slide in easily – don’t force it.

Replace the Lamp Cover and tighten the screw.

Resetting the Lamp Replacement counter

NOTE: Reset the Lamp Replacement Counter only when the projector lamp has been replaced. Otherwise the timer will not match the actual life left in the lamp.  Plug in the power cord, switch on the projector, and reset lamp time by pressing both arrow keys and POWER button simultaneously. This will reset the lamp timer back to zero.

The combination of computers, tablets and whiteboard projectors at home and at school are contributing to eye problems in younger and younger children. Here’s how to recognize the symptoms of digital eye strain (known as CVS — computer vision syndrome) and some of the preventive tips to be taken.

Causes of CVS

According to a 2014 survey conducted by the American Optometric Association (AOA), 83% percent of children between the ages of 10 and 17 are using some kind of electronic device three to four hours a day. Eye doctors consider this to be too much screen time.

protecting_eyes-kids_schoolWhen staring at a computer screen, tablet or cell phone, we tend to blink less. Since our eyes work harder to see thing closer than in the distance, sitting too close to the small screens can lead to muscle fatigue. Over time the eyes get weaker, more easily tired and strained. This can cause CVS digital eye strain.

Our eyes are designed to look straight ahead and down slightly. A computer monitor too high or a projector screen off to the side makes your eyes work in an unnatural position, also causing strain. Eye muscles work harder which causes them to get strained. Children have a tendency to also sit too close to their cell phone, tablet or monitor, which also contributes to weaker eyes.

Today’s smartphones, tablets, flat screen TVs and LED monitors and projectors emit cool blue light that also contributes to eye strain and discomfort. There are also growing concerns that these blue light can cause retina damage since it stimulate the retina’s blue cells as it passes through the cornea leading to serious conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

CVS Symptoms

Digital eyestrain also known as computer vision syndrome (CVS) is showing up in children more frequently. The same AOA survey found that parents and teachers underestimate how much time our children are spending on electronic devices.

While adults are self-aware about the problem most kids don’t make the connection between screen time and sore eyes. The AOA recommend teachers and parents that children learn the warning signs of CVS that include:

  • dry eyes
  • blurry vision
  • burning sensation
  • headaches
  • shoulder pain
  • fatigue

Protecting our children’s eyesight

protecting_eyesight_2The AOA has put out guidelines for both the classroom and at home to help prevent or reduce digital eyestrain:

  • Take a break. Follow the 10-10-10 rule which means which means every 10 minutes take a 10 second break and look at something 10 feet away. This reduces eyestrain and helps the eyes to relax.
  • Keep blinking to keep the eyes moist.
  • Computer screens should be only four to five inches below eye level and 20 to 28 inches away from the eyes.
  • Handheld devices should be held away at a safe distance.
  • Check for glare on the screen so that no light sources are directly visibly on the computer monitor.
  • Adjust the brightness of the screen and change the background color.
  • Reduce the amount of lighting in the room to match the computer screen. Bright overhead light should be on a dimmer switch.
  • Increase the font size on the computer to reduce eyestrain.
  • Teach students never to stare directly into the projector beam and always step outside the beam when approaching the projector at school or at home.

Your NEC VT59EDU projector uses the NEC VT80LP projector lamp. When the NEC VT59EDU projector lamp has reached end of life, the LAMP indicator will begin to blink red .

You can expect between 2000 to 3000 hours of lamp life. When your After your NEC VT59EDU projector lamp is reaching end of life your LAMP INDICATOR light will blink red. There will also be an onscreen message that shows up: LAMP HAS REACHED THE END OF ITS USABLE LIFE. PLEASE REPLACE THE LAMP AND FILTER.

Installing the NEC VT59EDU lamp

NOTE: Follow these important safety instructions before installation of the new lamp:

  • turn off the projector.
  • unplug the projector from its power source.
  • unplug the power cable.
  • wait until the projector is cool to the touch to avoid getting burned. This can take up to one hour.

2. Push and slide the cover off and then up toe remove it from the NEC VT59EDU projector.

NOTE: Your old NEC VT80LP lamp should be properly recycled. These lamps contain mercury so can’t go into regular garbage.

4. Grab the lamp by the side indents and gently lift it up.

Resetting the lamp timer

Once the NEC VT80LP projector lamp has been replaced, you’ll need to reset the lamp timer. Failure to do so will make the projector shut down.

  • Using the remote control, click the MENU option.
  • Move to RESET menu.
  • Move down to CLEAR LAMP HOURS.
  • A second submenu will appear. Select YES.

Extending the life of the NEC NP17LP lamp

Get your newly installed NEC VT80LP projector lamp to last longer by using the ECO option. The ECO MODE increases lamp life by lowering the power consumptions. There are three modes to choose from:

  • OFF: Default setting for 100% brightness
  • Auto ECO: Lamp power consumption is controlled by the projects and will change between OFF and ECO1 automatically according to the picture.
  • ECO1: Lamp consumption set at 75%

Installing the new Projector Lamp

The PowerLite Home Cinema 3000 uses the Epson ELPLP85 projector lamp.

Before installation:

  • Turn off power switch on PowerLite Home Cinema 3000 projector.
  • Unplug the electrical cord.
  •  Allow the PowerLite Home Cinema 3000 projector to cool down. It should be cool to the touch before you open it to change the projector lamp. Otherwise you run the risk of burning yourself.

  • The lamp cover is found on top of the PowerLite Home Cinema 3000 projector. Loosen the lamp cover screw — you can’t remove it only loosen it.PowerLite_Home_Cinema_3000_Epson_ELPLP85_remove_projector_lampPowerLite_Home_Cinema_3000_Epson_ELPLP85_projector_lamp_cover_screw
  • Slide the  projector lamp cover off.
  • remove_projector_lamp_screwsLoosen the two screws holding the Epson ELPLP85 projector lamp in place.
  • Using the wire handle on the  projector lamp, gently pull the lamp out. Be careful not to bang the lamp against the projector. NOTE: The Epson ELPLP85 projector lamp contains mercury and should be recycled properly.
  • Gently insert the replacement Epson ELPLP85 projector lamp making sure it’s facing the right way. If it doesn’t slide in easily it’s in backwards.PowerLite_Home_Cinema_3000_Epson_ELPLP85_insert_projector_lamp
  • Be sure not to touch the actual glass bulb as the oil from your fingers will leave a black mark on the screen.
  • PowerLite_Home_Cinema_3000_Epson_ELPLP85_insert_projector_lampscrewsTighten the screws on the new Epson ELPLP85 projector lamp. Be sure not to tighten too much or the lamp may not work.
  • Replace the lamp cover and tighten the screw on the projector lamp cover. You are now ready to reset the projector lamp timer.

Reset the projector lamp timer

Reset the PowerLite Home Cinema 3000 projector Lamp Replacement Counter only when the Epson ELPLP85 projector lamp has been replaced. Otherwise the projector may run past the recommended lamp life and suffer an explosion.

  • Turn on the projector
  • Press the MENU button on the remote control. The Lamp Reset Menu will appear.
  • Scroll down to the RESET MENU. Press ENTER.
  • Select RESET LAMP HOURS. Press ENTER.
  •  Select YES to the prompt asking if you want to reset the lamp hours. Press ENTER.
  • Press MENU to exit.

Prolong the life of the PowerLite Home Cinema 3000 projector lamp:

Extend the life of the newly installed Epson ELPLP85 projector lamp with the following tips:

  • Keep your air filters clean to avoid overheating the projector.
  • Turn off the PowerLite Home Cinema 3000 projector and let it stand for at least one hour ever 24 hours. An average use of four to five hours per day will ensure longer lamp life.
  • Make sure there is enough airflow around the projector particularly if it’s been permanently mounted.

Sophisticated components

Your projector lamp is a marvel of engineering, designed to work in conjunction with the sophisticated electronics in your projector. In order to produce the intense light needed your projector lamp contains an ARC tube, a piece of blown, high temperature resistant glass measuring about 3 inches in length. When is the projector lamp finished?

Watch for the warning signs that indicate the Epson Powerlite 1940W projector needs a new projector lamp:

  • Image begins to dim or actually deteriorate. Colours appear distorted.
  • “Replace the Lamp” warning message appears on screen
  • Lamp light flashing orange

Installing the new Epson 1940W projector lamp

Your Epson PowerLite 1940W projector uses the Epson ELPLP75 projector lamp. Before installing the new projector lamp follow these important preparation steps:

  • Turn off the projector and wait until the power lights stops flashing.
  • Unplug the power cord so the projector can’t be accidentally turned of while the lamp is being replaced.
  • Wait for at least one hour for the Epson PowerLite 1940W to cool down. It should be cool to the touch. These projectors operate under high heat and you can get burned very badly if the projector is still hot.

Using the the screwdriver that came with the Epson PowerLite 1940W loosen the screw holding on the projector lamp cover. Remove the lamp cover

Use the same screwdriver to loosen the screws holding the Epson ELPLP75 projector lamp in place.

Grab wire handle lamp and gently pull up the Epson ELPLP75 projector lamp. Using too much force can break the bulb. Learn how to clean up after a bulb breaks.

Put the old projector lamp aside for proper recycling. These lamps can’t be thrown into the regular garbage as they contain mercury.

Hold the lamp so it faces the correct way and insert the Epson ELPLP75 projector lamp until it clicks into place. If it doesn’t easily fit into the projector make sure it’s facing the right way. Never force the lamp into the projector.

Tighten the two screws on the new Epson ELPLP75 projector lamp. Replace the projector lamp cover and tighten the screw on the cover. You must reset the lamp timer.

Resetting the Epson PowerLite 1940W lamp timer

After replacing the Epson ELPLP75 projector lamp you’ll need to reset the lamp timer in order for the Epson PowerLite 190W to properly track the lamp life. Only reset the lamp timer when a new projector lamp has been installed

To reset the lamp timer:

  • Press the MENU button on either projector’s control panel or on the remote control to display the MAIN MENU.
  • Scroll down to the RESET menu. Press ENTER.
  • Scroll down to the RESET LAMP HOURS option.
  • A reset dialogue box will appear asking you if you want to reset the hours. Select Yes. Press ENTER.
  • The lamp hours will be reset to zero.
  • Press EXIT to leave the menu settings
