The Samsung HL-R6768W is a rear projection TV using DLP technology. The set packs enough features and performance to give the other manufacturers a run for their money. It offers a full native resolution of 1920 X 1080 at 1080p. The outward appearance of the set though was quite conservative. The set has a table top design with the internal speakers being fitted in the cavities at the bottom of the screen. The positioning of the speakers has allowed the manufacturers to shave off a few inches from the width of the set. Apart from the silver strip at the bottom of the screen the rest of the cabinet is matte black.

The power button is located in the centre at the bottom of the screen. The rest of the function keys like the channel or volume buttons are fitted to the right side of the cabinet which gives the set a distinctive look. The overall dimensions of the set are 62 X 45 X 20 inches (W X H X D) and weighs 109 pounds which is extremely light for such a large TV. The DLP chip has 960 X 1080 numbers of pixels which is doubled using the wobulation or smooth picture technology.

The Sony KDL-46S3000 is a 46 inch TV set and uses the LCD technology. The set is a part of Sony’s Bravia series and the fact that it is the cheapest has given it a great chance to be the most popular among the masses. The dimensions of the set are 43.9 X 28.8 X 4.9 inches (W X H X D) and weighs in at a meager 61 pounds which makes it easier to be used for wall mounting purposes. The use of a stand though increases the dimensions by a bit.

The set delivers excellent picture quality with better black levels and higher processing quality. Although the Sony KDL-46S3000 was extremely good looking I am very much inclined to call it conservative. Except for a glossy black strip at the bottom of the screen the rest of the cabinet is matte black. The set offers a native resolution of 1366 X 768 which means that it can show all the details at 720p including high and standard definition and DVD’s which are scaled to fit the available pixels. The set offers an ideal brightness level and better black levels than the previous sets. The contrast levels offered by the set too were adequate although the screen appeared a bit red sometimes.

The Sony KDL-46S3000 is priced more than any other set of the same size but is less than most other 1080p models and should be a good prospect for most mid size television buyers.

From the design point of view the Sony KDF-60XBR950 is one of the most beautiful TV set ever made. It is power packed with plenty of features and has oodles of style. Of course the extra style does take its toll on your wallet but apart from the price the set offers an average out of the box, pre-calibration performance. But if you want to get the optimum quality out of the set you have to get it calibrated by a professional.

The giant screen of the Sony KDF-60XBR950 with the pane of glass is a sure turn on. Apart from the black borders around the screen the rest of the set is silver in color. The native resolution of the set is 1366 X 768 which is enough to show highly detailed images at 720p. The contrast ratios are quite satisfying and the black levels are better than previous models could have been better. Even though the set is not the best performer without any changes, with a little bit of calibration the set gives the best performance for a LCD rear projection TV set.

Overall the colors are very rich but the reds tend to be highly emphasized. The smooth video performance of the set was praiseworthy. The silver colored speakers are attached to the sides of the cabinet of the TV set and offer stunning sound quality. Overall the Sony KDF-60XBR950 is a good buy if you have the extra money to spend.

Although the LCD technology has been has been playing catch up with the DLP, it has made up some ground over the last couple of years. With the screen sizes increases and prices falling the former is sure to give a strong challenge to the DLP domination. The Sony KDF-E50A10 shows us exactly why the LCD is here to stay. A compact frame, a reasonable price tag and a big company name tag are sure to help this set climb up to the top of the rankings.

The Sony KDF-E50A10 is a 50” TV set when measured diagonally. The black bezel cabinet of the set has been exquisitely designed with a silver gray color border around the screen. The depth of this rear projection set is 16 inches and its dimensions are less than any other set of the same size. The native resolution of the set has actually been reduced from 1366 X 768 to 1280 X 720. But this will not be such a big problem as the set displays the 720p signals very well.

The colors offered by the set are rich and natural although they are sometimes inaccurate. The internal speakers are almost hidden in the cavity on the under side of the cabinet. Pushing the speakers to the bottom has allowed the manufacturers to reduce the width of the set by quite a lot which allows the user to install the set in even lesser spaces. The Sony KDF-E50A10 is Cable ready which includes a CableCard slot.

I’m sorry I do not have the whole model number. We took the TV in for repairs as there was a buzzing noise. The thing that was buzzing was directly above the projection bulb and alittle towards the front. This sound was consistant with the sound my computer has when the fan gets bad. The repair shop said the color wheel was bad and there were other issues that needed repaired. Some “engine” thing. The Tv worked good the picture was fine. I have the same Tv in a 61″ too and they appeared to have the same quality of picture just bigger. The part that was buzzing appeared to be a fan. Does this sound like the problem is the color wheel? why didn’t the video quality go down?

Sony KDL-52XBR2 Flat Screen LCD TV

The Sony KDL-52XBR2 is a 52 inch flat screen TV set using LCD technology and is from Sony’s Bravia Series. With the KDL-52XBR2Sony have taken a leap from 1080i to 1080p. it has been elegantly designed using a silver cabinet to give a floating screen effect. The set offers a full display resolution of 1980 X 1080 at 1080p with a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9.

The Bravia series is loaded with features to give the viewer an enriching experience. The white balance controls of the Sony KDL-52XBR2, which are used for exact D6500K calibration, can be controlled from the remote and does not require you to enter the service menu as is the case with most plasma and LCD TV sets. The contrast ratios of the set could be measured in the range of 240:1 which is commendable for any LCD television. The black levels were slightly disappointing and could have been much better. Sometimes the black levels seemed too hazy and oversaturated.

The colors of the Sony KDL-52XBR2 are vibrant but a little oversaturated especially while using the 1080i signal. The viewing angles of the set too were quite satisfying with the use of the antiglare screen. The set is a tad less than 5” in depth which is slightly more but this increase in depth has been seen in all LCD depth. The sound quality provided by the set is amazing. Overall the set is a good buy inspite of the higher price as it gives you a larger screen size.

Sony LCD TV Review KDL-46S2000 46″ Flat Panel LCD TV

The Sony KDL-46S2000 is 46” (measured diagonally) widescreen TV using LCD technology and is from Sony’s Bravia S series. The native resolution of the set is 1366 X 768 (WXGA) with a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9 which is useful while viewing widescreen videos or movies. The set is equipped with a silver cabinet with the buttons fitted at the top and can cause some distress for anyone who wants to mount the television on the wall.

The colors of the set are extremely rich and vivid and sometimes overly bright, especially in the Vivid Picture Mode. The color reproduction is quite accurate in the Standard Picture Mode with a few adjustments. Overall the viewing angles are satisfying. The picture is quite good for a horizontal viewing angle of 160 degrees, which is much less than the 178 degrees advertised by Sony, and vertical viewing angle of 15 degrees.

The black levels of the set really left me disappointed because most of the details were lost as the dark parts were displayed far too brightly. Lowering the power of the LCD backlight bulb helps to decrease the problem to a certain extent. The contrast ratios of the Sony KDL-46S2000 could be measured somewhere at 700:1 which is quite good but cannot be compared to the plasma TV’s which have much better black levels. The speakers are good enough for a moderate sized viewing area and have surround sound capabilities.

The Samsung HL-P5085W is a 50” widescreen, high definition TV set using DLP technology. The depth of the set is 20.5” and tips the scales at about 125.4 pounds. The native resolution of the set is 1280 X 720 with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The use of DLP technology eliminates the hazards of screen door effect or image burn in which are prevalent in other technologies. With the stunning cabinet the Samsung HL-P5085W is a sight to behold. The cabinet is fitted with touch sensitive light up controls.

The colors produced by the set are deep and natural. The brightness and black levels are amazing and contrast ratio of the set has been measured at 2500:1 which is quite creditable. The split screen mode allows the user to view a couple of programs at the same time and will appeal to those interested in following the happenings on two channels at the same time. The speakers fitted in the cabinet provide excellent sound quality with an output of 15 watts each.

The remote does not feature any design change and looks old but simple. The menu systems were easier to navigate. The set uses a user replaceable lamp which has been rated by Samsung to last for about 5000 to 8000 hours which should last you for about a couple of years depending on your daily usage. The JVC HD-52G887 is 52 inch (measured diagonally) widescreen rear projection TV set which uses JVC’s highly praised D-ILA technology. The D-ILA technology uses a three chip system which is used for color production. The use of D-ILA technology delivers the most advanced and superior quality TV sets as of today. The D-ILA is JVC’s name for the LCOS technology and is an intermediate between the LCD and the DLP. The hazards such as screen aging or burn in issues are avoided with the use of D-ILA technology.
