Samsung has a lot of DLP customers confused… here is a little background:

Samsung originally used Toshiba as their UHP Lamp supplier. Samsung went through a few production runs and then made the decision to switch to Philips UHP Lamps. Why they made the switch is speculation…Higher quality? Better reputation? Better pricing? Who knows! One thing that is clear: Philips is the innovator of UHP lamps. They are also leaders in R&D in this growing technology. Samsung did it’s homework and went with the leader in the industry (good job Samsung)!

So Samsung originally came out with BP96-00224A which was a Toshiba Lamp. This was later replaced with the BP96-00224C which was a Philips Lamp. Here is a picture below showing the only physically apparent difference between the lamp enclosures.

If you need a lamp for your RCA Scenium, part number: 265866, 265919, 269343, 270414, 271326, 260962, or any other RCA DLP TV lamp, visit Discount-Merchant.com for the best price online or click on this link.

In most cases, your RCA Scenium is powered by a 120W UHP (Ultra High Performance) lamp manufactured by Philips. There is a chance that you have an OSRAM lamp if your enclosure says “Type-B” on it. It is FixYourDLP.com’s suggestion to replace your lamp with Philips branded bulbs only. Philips is the innovator of UHP technology and these lamps are the most sophisticated and reliable lamps available on the marketplace. If you have an OSRAM lamp and it is less than two years old, you’re probably already know the OSRAM lamp are not so great.

Trust Philips, UHP innovators and worldwide leader in the R&D and production of UHP Lamps…it doesn’t make sense to use a cheap aftermarket brand as they always cost you more in the long run! If your lamp is Philips, do not replace it
with a OSRAM, LTI, or other generic manufactured units. Now for your viewing pleasure, here is what your ORIGINAL TV lamp looks like 😉 Click on each image for a high resolution photo.

Should you buy an original lamp or a generic replacement lamp for your JVC D-ILA TV? The choice is clearly up to the consumer, but we like the original lamps for a few reasons:

1. Engineered by JVC for JVC. Your D-ILA is a fine-tuned TV when running properly, capable of amazing colors and resolution…why degrade it for a few dollars in difference?! Our partner site, Discount-Merchant.com has these original lamps available for $160. This is $40 less than the retail price of a generic, brand LTI lamp.

2. According to JVC, they have corrected issues with their initial lamp design which was prone to premature failure. The new lamp is redesigned and a more reliable lamp. Although the part number and model numbers are the same, these lamps should be rolling out to most dealers right now. It’s important that whoever you purchase your replacement lamp from knows about this revision or they can assure you of these “new batch” lamps. Don’t get stuck with someone’s old inventory!

Although we’ve supported this theory from JVC, in the last year and half, we have seen very little improvement in the quality of these lamps. Matsushita (Panasonic) has been really struggling with the R&D of UHP Technology and evidence is readily available…just talk to any Panasonic DLP owner from the last 4 years! There is a class action lawsuit against Panasonic right now! Conclusion? Purchase Philips UHP Lamps as a replacement…due to demand, Philips just release this lamp for all JVC TVs!!

Samsung DLP TV This is a quick reference guide to show you how to reset your Samsung DLP TV’s lamp hour meter or hour counter.

Step 1: Buy authentic

It’s important that you install an OEM lamp and avoid a generic, compatible lamp.

Knock-off, compatible generic lamps may seem like a bargain in the beginning. They actually cost more in the long run since they can damage the color wheel and ballast mechanisms in your RPTV. They also give off poor light, are prone to messy explosions and actually have a shorter life.

There are also health concerns associated with these lamps. Generic lamps are made with toxic substances that can compromise your family’s health. Read more about the dangers of Krypton-85.

When you purchase an OEM replacement lamps you’re guaranteed the best lamp for your RPTV.

We recommend purchasing from an Authorized Philips dealer such as Discount-Merchant.com to insure that you are receiving a genuine Philips brand replacement lamp. Beware of knock-off and counterfeit Philips lamps floating around in the market.

Step 2: Resetting the counter

Once you have installed your OEM replacement lamp, resetting the counter is a very simple procedure:
• Begin with the TV powered off.
• Point your remote towards your TV.
• Press:
• Menu + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power.
• Your TV set should now say “Loading Factory”.
• Browse down to “Option” then press Enter (or the right cursor button).

To exit the service menu, hit press the EXIT button or just turn off your TV (remember not to turn on your TV immediately afterward!).

NOTE: The Mute+1+8+2 buttons needs to be pressed down consecutively and fairly quickly. If your TV does not enter the service menu after using this combination, you can substitute MENU instead of MUTE. This seems to work for some sets. Also, the right cursor arrow also acts as the ENTER button, so try it if you’re having difficulty with the ENTER button.

Advantages of OEM lamps

• Brilliant brightness and luminosity: Your OEM lamps has been built to work in harmony with every component in your RPTV. Keep the optics, power supply, electronics and processing algorithms in sync to provide the best image possible – the reason who invested in an RPTV.
• Color: Genuine lamps have the correct technology to give the correct optical alignment of your color wheel and give consistent color across the whole screen.
• Safety: Your RPTV operates at extremely high temperatures. The quartz, glass and wires in your lamp have to be able to withstand the high pressure heat. Scruplous OEM manufacturers lamps have tested their lamps for safety. Generic manufacturers have not.
• Lamp Life: Only OEM lamps have the durability to work for their entire lifespan. Only genuine lamps give you the guaranty of full life performance along with a money back guarantee. Installing a generic knock-off lamp will void your warranty and should any damage be done to your RPTV you’re on your on for repairs. Why threaten the investment you’ve made in your RPTV to sake a few dollars?

What is D-ILA? Is it just a fancy way of saying I have a “DLP” TV? Why did JVC choose D-ILA?

LCOS is the technology, D-ILA is JVC’s version of it. Essentially LCOS is a different approach to standard LCDs were accustomed to in our computer monitors, car navigation systems, cell phones, etc. Instead of the transmissive approach to delivering light, D-ILA and LCOS use a reflective approach powered by Ultra-High Performance (UHP) Lamps.
