Lamp Modes

There are two lamps modes on the BenQ MP511:

Normal: Gives you the brightest screen but also reduces the lamp life.

Economic: Reduces system noise and power consumption by 20% prolonging to life of the lamp but does result in darker projected images.

You’ve settled down to watch TV when you notice white star-like clusters on the screen. It’s not dust and it’s not a problem with the brightness. It’s the white death problem caused by a worn out DMD chip.

Mitsubishi DLP TVs have been plagued with the problems for several years now. Various forums talk about customers being given quotes of $600 and upwards for solving the white spot syndrome or replacing the DMD DLP chip. Fortunately, there are companies offering the offering the DLP chip for under $200.

Causes of white death

No matter what the brand, at the heart of any DLP TV the DMD chip invented in 1987 by Dr. Larry Hornbeck of Texas Instruments. This optical semiconductor contains an array of up to 2 million hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors, so small they measure one-fifth the width of a human hair.

White death: why??

As it receives the signal, the small mirrors rotate, either tilting away from the light or towards it to produce those stunning images that have made these TVs a frontrunner for the consumer. Since they are mounted on a yoke with an axle that literally twists in the middle, these micro mirrors get stuck and can no longer reflect the signal. The result is a white or black dot on the screen. As more and more mirrors become stuck, more white dots appear on screen creating an image that can’t be viewed.

MItsusbishi DMD DLP chip

The affordable solution

In order to address the issue, Texas Instrument has created a replacement DMD DLP chip that is affordable and readily available from recognized distributors. While part numbers may vary, the chip remains the same. The following part numbers are interchangeable:

Mitsubishi DMD Chip 276P595010

Retailing at $1000, this projector uses a 0.55″ DLP chip, employing an 800×600 resolution to compress higher-resolution inputs for a crisp picture on screen. There’s a 16:9 mode, which digitally resizes the picture and uses the golden ratio wheel to increase color depth.

The extremely quiet operating system (25dB) means the presenter won’t have to shout over the machine and its lightweight (6.4lbs0 means easy transportation.
The BenQ MP610 can have trouble handling more complicated photos and some may appear washed. It also has a limited range of inputs, with D-sub, S-video and composite the only available options. There are no digital inputs. The projector does tend to run hot and the initial set-up can be difficult. The only maintenance needed is regular cleaning of the lens and lamp replacement.

BenQ MP610is ideal for businesses, education and government offices on a budget.

The importance of authentic lamps

Always invest in a genuine BenQ 5J.J1S01.001 lamp in order to keep your BenQ MP610 projector working. Your original manufacturer (OEM) has created these lamps to fit your BenQ MP610 projector and keep the sophisticated components working properly. While generic lamps may be sold at discount prices, their inferior workmanship and cheap materials often result in damage to the interior of projectors. They are also prone to explosions which can release toxic heavy metals into the air as well as damage your projector beyond repair.
You’ve settled down to watch TV when you notice white star-like clusters on the screen. It’s not dust and it’s not the brightness. Those white dots–the white death problem– mean only one thing– a worn out DMD chip.

The solution offered by your manufacturer can be expensive. Fortunately there is a solution for under $200.

This annoying problem seems to crop up with Samsung DLP TVs when they’ve been in used anywhere from two to five years – usually when the warranty has expired

While not as bad as other brands, Samsung is struggling with the white death problem with some of its DLP TVs.

If you read the various forums offering solutions, you’ll see customers being given quotes of $600 and upwards for solving the white spot syndrome or replacing the DMD DLP chip. Fortunately, there are companies offering the offering the DLP chip for under $200.

The affordable solution

In order to address the issue, Texas Instrument has created a replacement DMD DLP chip that is affordable and readily available from recognized distributors. While part numbers may vary, the chip remains the same. The following part numbers are interchangeable:

Samsung DMD Chip 4719-001997
Replace the lamp immediately when the yellow light is blinking.

Only genuine Sanyo POA-LMP69 (service parts no 610 309 7589) lamps should be used in order to keep your projector is good working order. The authentic POA-LMP69 has been manufactured to meet the specifications of the Sanyo PLV-Z2 projector.

The price of counterfeit knock-off lamps may be tempting but can cost you more money in the long run. Counterfeit lamps are not manufactured according to Sanyo’s specifications and can damage the sensitive (and expensive) mechanisms in your Sanyo PLV-Z2 projector.

Follow our easy 3-step guide to a new Sanyo PLC-XE20 projector lamp.

STEP ONE: Purchase the correct projector lamp

The lifespan of your Sanyo POA-LMP65 (service parts no 610 307 7925) lamp will vary depending on how much the projector is used and if the filters are cleaned regularly.

The best thing you can do to prolong the life of your Sanyo PLC-XE20 and save money is to invest in an original Sanyo POA-LMP65 (service parts no 610 307 7925) projector lamp. Generic lamps look like a great bargain since they are generally cheaper, however, these knock-off lamps are created with inferior materials. They are susceptible to explosions, have a shorter life span and can damage the precise components in your Sanyo PLC-XE20 projector. Installing a knock-off generic lamp also voids your warranty.

STEP TWO: Install the Sanyo POA-LMP65 lamp

NOTE: Allow the Sanyo PLC-XE20 projector to thoroughly cool before changing the lamp. Turn off the projector, unplug the AC cord and allow 45 to 60 minutes for the projector to cool. These projectors operate under high heat and there is a possibility of being burned, if the projector is not fully cooled before changing the lamp.

The lamp cover for the Sanyo PLC-XE20 is at the bottom of the projector. Gently turn projector over and loosen the screw holding the cover in place. Place the cover to one side.
