Re: Samsung HPS423X/XAA

Chubbs, no photos. The fat power supply capacitor damage was evident. I removed one so I could get a good look at the specifications. One was so bad that the plastic was split and loose. As an amateur, I was able to identify the issue. I ordered replacements from China. The desoldering took more tim...

Re: Service adjustments for receivers after chip replacement

Well, my cleaning lady now believes I'm a TV expert level technician. She is amazed at the picture on my Sam RPTV and that the dots are gone. So, she brought her Sam plasma here to the house, "Mr. def, can you look at my tv and tell me what is wrong?". Two weeks and $10.00 worth of capacitors and sh...

Re: Samsung HPS423X/XAA

Update. .......

The PS board was full of failed capacitors. I ordered replacements from China...$10.00 shipped. The receiver is working fine.

Now, the BMW is getting new fuel lines, fuel filter and brake lines.

Service adjustments for receivers after chip replacement

First, let me state, I am NOT a TV technician or repairman. I did operate and repair shipboard RADAR many years ago (vacuum tube era) while I was in the US Navy. Those days and the accompanying technology is long gone. No more stray RF flying around (In the cold of the North Atlantic, we used to ope...

Re: Samsung HL-T6189S DLP tv

I do not believe that RPTVs using dLp are manufactured any longer. However, your set is worth repairing because of the low cost and high performance of these sets. I recently repaired my white dot issue by replacing the dLp chip, also referred to as the DMD. This is a Texas Instruments device which ...
you ride, that is great, whats in your garage? BMWs are beautiful, I fly on a Buell 1125R. Theres something keeping me tied to a Harley engine with a belt drive. Or maybe I just do not like Japanese bikes? Well let me know if anything from the TV develops and I can be of any service...

Re: Samsung HPS423X/XAA

Hey Fox, thanks. The set is not mine but belongs to a fellow with limited resources. He knows I repaired my dLp Samsung and now believes me to be an expert...not so. I am friendly with a VOM so, I'll look for the PS layout and tests. As for the m/n, I'll have to check further on the rear of the rece...

Re: Cleaning the inside mirror
Thanks Is there numbers on capacitors, how do I know what to get?
The caps are labelled with voltage and microfarads. You may need to remove the board to see the numbers but, they're there. I believe those are electrolytic caps and so, there are also polarity marks on the c...
Hi! Oh for sure, I have a similar Sammy, dedicated to gaming because of the awesome pictures, I did also catch the playoffs on it and currently march madness (eventhough my alma-SDSU Aztecs got it handed to them by DUKE, no surprizes there hehe). If it were my TV, I would replace the suspect capacitor(s). It can't be that daunting a task.

Samsung HPS423X/XAA

Upon power up, the receiver goes through the normal start up attempt then shuts off after about 5-6 seconds. Where do I start? Give me some things to look at like check for bulging capacitors on the PS board, that kind of thing. Once I have the receiver fixed, a case of beer to the correct diagnosis...

Re: dlack dots

This suggests that the DMD device is showing signs of failure. This is the Texas Instruments dLp chip that eventually fails with more and more dots. Mine failed with both black and white dots. The mirrors on the chip get stuck either on or off. Most speculate that it is excess heat that causes the f...

Re: Cleaning the inside mirror

I cleaned my optics with a damp microfiber cloth when I had it apart for the DMD change. The microfiber cloth won't scratch. I am not sure if that mirror is a primary surface mirror so, I would use caution. Mine came out just fine. I cleaned everything in the optical path except the screen itself. I...

Re: Alignment of 50" dLp, LED, RPTV Sam HLT5089SX

Thanks Mr Grayfox. My R&R of the dLp chip is successful. I watched the Packers get beat on the set shortly after repairs were complete. But, I'm an anal kinda guy and love to tinker around, hence my question about aligning. I have received the Samsung technician manual on a nice thumb drive but,...

Re: Samsung HLT6187S screen black

This receiver has no replaceable lamp. The light engine is LEDs. You can see that plainly from looking at the photo. There are three LEDs, ductwork, wiring and cooling fans...no wheel, no lamp. Now that some time has passed, is there any update as to the repairs needed and the final outcome? I too h...

Can new lamps be installed in LCD TVs?

I am not only a rookie but I am also NOT a TV repairperson and so, please forgive my rookieness. I have a Samsung LNT3753HX receiver. All is working fine with the exception of the left side of the screen. The brightness in this area is not the same as the rest of the screen and therefore, I suspect ...

Re: Samsung HLS4666WX/XAA White dots on pic/screen

As indicated, your TV uses a dLp chip to produce the picture on the screen. The technology developed by Texas Instruments is fascinating however, it is no longer used in home TV receivers. Next time your visit an Imax theater, you'll be experiencing dLp technology at its finest. Here's what you'll n...

Alignment of 50" dLp, LED, RPTV Sam HLT5089SX

So, my Sammy HLT5089SX, 1080P, rear projection, dLp, LED light engine (no short arc lamp and no color wheel) suffered from the stuck mirrors on the dLp chip. The screen looked like the Milky Way. I suspect that dLp component is subject to damage from excess heat. I don’t usually work on TV receivers...

Toshiba LED smart TV..smarter than I am

So, Santa brought us a new Toshiba 50L3400U 50” smart LED TV for Christmas. How do you improve the picture quality on this receiver? I am having difficulty getting face tones to come out correctly (everybody looks like they are jaundiced). Is there a service mode or technician mode I can call up to ...
