To be honest everything in the light engine has to do with the alignment of the picture projected on the screen. It might be the adjustment ring around the projector lens, or it could be a mirror inside, or something else. I suggest you either send it to a technician you trust so he can have a look ...

Wow it looks like its either the digital video board or the DMD, how ever try to bring up the TV menu, if the menu is also affected, then it’s the DMD board, if not then check your digital video board for any swollen capacitors.

That sounds more like the color wheel; you see after some considerable use the color wheel starts get stuck or the baring in the middle starts to move. That’s what produces the humming sound. Now when the DMD board (the brain of the TV) detects an anomaly (not reaching its 7200 rpm) it will shut off...

Coincidence? My advice is that you start saving for the digital board, because sooner or later the picture distortion will probably return. If it dose, now you know why. Good thing tough that its now working like a charm.

Hmmmm, first inspect the digital board for any swollen capacitors, if you find any replace them or buy a new board. How ever there is a strong possibility it’s the DMD since you can’t bring up the tv menu.

Do you hear any strange noises coming from the back of the tv? Have you cleaned the inside of the tv free of dust & mold? Also check your video board for any swollen capacitors. If there are any you either must replace them or buy a new board.

Just make sure you find out what type of color wheel you have, it’s either the silver or the gold one. Otherwise it won’t fit or work properly.

I think it was the cleaning, in some TVs disconnecting the tv for long periods resets the settings (even the lamp timer) although its very rear.

My first recommendation is to open up the Tv and completely cleaning the inside especially the fans and color wheel. If that doesn’t work then the color wheel is my next suspect, the previous owner probably installed a second hand wheel, one that still works but is on its last days of use.

It sounds as if your color wheel has a air bearing issue, its very common problem, it causes the color wheel to not spit at the 7600 rpm that the DMD board requires to operate the TV perfectly.

Hmmmm, looks like the only other option left is the color wheel, since some of the symptoms at the start point to the color wheel. You see the color wheel has to spin at approximately 7600 rmp, if the DMD board detects an abnormal spin rate it will shut off the DMD.

My recommendation is first clean the fans on the inside of the lamp (you got to take the back of the tv off), normally the dust and mold that accumulates and tends to over heat the lamp. That is a hardware issue, you’ll have to align the internal mirrors, personally I suggest either have a technician you trust have a look at it to see if it’s fixable, or just buy a new light engine.

I think it’s the video board, check it for any swollen capacitors, they tend to blow up at the top, if there are no visible damaged capacitors then its probably an internal issue and you’ll have to replace it entirely.

WOW, 6 years with the same lamp! That a record. You definitely need to replace the lamp, how ever that noise that you hear is it a constant clicking sound, if yes then the ballast might also needs replacing.

Interesting, do you hear any clicking noises when you try tu turn the tv on? Have you cleaned the inside of the tv? (Dust & mold that accumulates with time)
As for you question, the ballast is the board in charge of sending voltage to the lamp from the power supply.

You’ll have to buy a new one, there is no way around it, if you try to tape it or fix it with super glue it wont work, since the color wheel spins very fast (5,600 rmp aprox).
Search for it by part number, usually it start with a BP.

Yup, Color wheel and / or Digital board, we can rule out the DMD since you can see the menu perfectly. Check the digital board for any swollen capacitors at the top. You’re probably looking at around $130 (parts only).

That was probably it (you see the dust & mold that accumulates tends to over heat the internal parts thus activating the temperature sensors, then the DMD shuts of the TV) best of luck!

Ok, its one of two things, see if you can bring up the tv menu with your remote, if the menu is distorted or not showing then it’s the DMD board (the brain of your tv) if you do see the menu perfectly then it’s the digital board, probably a swollen capacitor. Good luck.
