Hello, I definitely think this big HDTV is worth fixing, this sound like a colorwheel issue. you you get any squeaky grinding or screeching sounds? If not then is the color the only distortion? If you turn all your colors down to ZERO and leave the picture in black and white, does everything work pe...

Hello! to answer your questions; -this sounds like a textbook colorwheel issue, except for the fact that the TV fails to respond to commands! :( -Yes most likely the input boards and digital video are fine because of the clear image. 8-) -The colorwheel can distort the picture in terms of coloration...

Hello,
wow this TV worked even after 2 blow outs?!!
nice! ;)
And yes both can be giving you the malfunction, I would recommend replacing the power supply first since it is the one that receives the power surge (and it is a less expensive part than the motherboard DMD).

first rule of thumb is how old the lamp is? second it can be the actual Ballast (since it is not igniting the lamp the TV gives you the lamp indicator light)...

well as a tech, rule of thumb is that during a DLPs life span those last two consumable parts have to be changed at least once during the lifespan of the TV.

if there is no color distortion I would look into any strange noises coming form your TV. Like a buzzing electric click which is one of the indicators a ballast might be weak.
note* a defective ballast does not need to make a sound in order for it to need replacement!

Hello,
I think this will most likely be the DMD board, the only way to rule this our would be to test analog versus digital inputs...
you mention you cannot test with HDMI, how about a DVI?

not always but it is the most common procedure your TV would take when a lamp goes, it would at one point detect the lamp is bad and shut down the rest of the components. I would replace the lamp.

Are DVD and Cable inputs both analog signals? (i.e. componenet, coaxial)
I think either way you might have a problem with you DMD board.
when it freezes does it not receive commands?

well there's 2 parts to look at:
