Power on your projector, Hold the UP arrow on the projector for 5-10 seconds. A lamp reset menu will apear. It's self explanitory from there.

What is the model number of your Sony TV? Can you post pictures to show us what you mean? Does the TV stay on for a while or does it turn off after a few minutes of not having half the picture?

Anything happen before 1/2 the picture was cut off?

pconlon, The noise you are describing, does it sound like a screetching noise? Does is start up and then go quiet? and then repeats? If your answer is yes, you have a bad color wheel. It is a very common problem on your set, next to the lamp... I recommend opening the set and checking the color whee...

Why do you have the idea that your DMD board is bad? Explain.

What do you mean by the ballast starts to spark? Does is click multiple times?

Have you checked your color wheel to see if it spins freely?

You can take off the back cover of the TV and keep the blue switch (lamp door sensor) pushed in with some tape in order to trick the TV into thinking that the cover is on. Then power on the set. Check to see where the noise is coming from.

Check the fans, make sure the disassembly / reassembly didn't put any wires too close to the fans. Then I recommend re-checking the color wheel to make sure it's seated properly. It should not be noisy if you just replaced it. I would look into it.

Tman, The Digital Board and Analog board do not need to be replaced simultaneously. It is very rare that they fail together (although it does happen). Tarigand, The DMD boards on these TV's normally last 3-5 years. I can't gaurantee that it will last a long time, however, in this economy $300 is better than $1200-$1500 for a comparible set. Switching engines is not difficult to do. As I explained in other posts.. Take your time, watch the connectors and use a digital camera to take lots of pictures before you pull plugs out. Take notes if needed.

jorant, The quick clicking noise is the ballast grounding out the voltage. This means that your Ballast is most likely bad or weak and can not spark the bulb. The lamp is also a possibility. I would order a new lamp first (as you know, you can always use a spare) and if it doesn't resolve your issue...

The lamp would be shot by now. You may want to order a ballast and lamp at the same time. But first, take out the bulb and check to see if physical damage is visible.

Yes, if the color wheel is not spinning at the proper speed (there is a sensor on the color wheel housing, and a timing mark on the wheel itself) then the ON signal will not be sent to the DMD board from the color wheel. This means the TV will not turn on.

The light engine you have a link to will probably not be compatible with your TV, however, if you do find one for your TV... YES it will resolve the issue.

A bad color wheel would cause your TV to turn off. It will not have anything to do with your tv not powering off. Explain a bit more. Why do you think color wheel? Does it make a noise? What is your model number?

I'm guessing that the digital board is going bad.

The LCD optical block is getting worn out by the intense heat of the lamp. I would wait until Discount-Merchant starts selling the parts for your projector. I'm sure they would be reasonable on the price..

Btw.. to get to service menu #2 you must do the same steps 1-3 to get to SM1 , while pressing the RECALL (EUROPE models use HOLD) button on the remote.
