Screen keeps getting darker....

I have a Samsung HLS5086WX/XAA that I purchased 1/12/2007. It has worked flawlessly until the past few days. The screen seems to be getting darker. I tried to go the settings and increase the brightness, but it doesn't seem to help. There are no other symptoms at all. The images on the screen are still very sharp and the color appears to not have lost any contrast. Any advise would be appreciated... Thanks!!

This is one of the first indicators that the mercury vapor lamp inside your TV is reaching the end of its lifetime. However I would not discard the Ballast as of now.
I can help you diagnose further with some more information, like how long have you had your TV? how many times have you replaced the Lamp? and when was the last time the Lamp was replaced?

We purchased it on 1/12/2007. It has been very well used ever since we got it with not one minutes trouble. I have never had any issues nor have I put in a new bulb. I went ahead and ordered a direct replacemment Philips buld for it that will supposedly be here on 3/08. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Great that would have been the first step I would have advised given the status of your TV. if the lamp does not solve the problem, I am here to help trouble shoot. Good Luck!

I am almost certain this will get your tv up and running and back to normal, if by any chance it does not, you know where to ask!
