samsung model HL-T5075S won't turn on

My tv is approx. 4 years old. I replaced the lamp in December. 2 days ago, the picture froze, still had audio. It did this several times during the day and each time it sort of "reset" itself by turning off and then right back on.

Yesterday, it began emitting a loud sort of "whistle" sound, and the picture went green with white vertical lines all the way across the screen. The tv did the same quick on/off cycle. It came back on and then repeated the "whistling" noise, screen went green with the vertical lines again, and shut off again and did not come back on.

What I have done so far: I removed the backing and blew out the dust with compressed air. I then tried to turn the tv on, at which point the green led light on the front came on and the tv sounded like it was turning on. However, it did not chime. The screen was illuminated but no picture or sound. The green light went off, then the tv shut off with the red standby light coming on. I then removed the lamp, held down the blue safety switch, and tried again. I removed the lamp to see if the color wheel was spinning, which it was but it had a buzzing whining sound. The tv itself would shut off and then try to turn right back on.

Any ideas on what part I need to replace? Sorry for the long post but just wanted to include as much detail as possible. Thanks in advace for any assistance!

You mentioned that the picture froze. Does it mean that the image just stuck or it shuts off?? If it is shutting off then its most probably a colorwheel issue or else the problem can have one of the following possible cases:

1) A colorwheel issue
2) DMD Board

1) As you mentioned that you are hearing buzzing whining sound and this is one of the symptoms of a bad colorwheel. Please look at our previous post explaining that:

Try to spin the colorwheel manually and check to see if it’s spinning without any problem. If it is not spinning properly, then it seems like a colorwheel problem.

Color wheel interrupts video signal to the screen and occasionally it also cuts power to the ballast. In most Samsung televisions, if there is no image projecting then the tv will shut off irrespective of sound, which is the case in your problem.

It sounds like you are quite familiar with the process of replacing the tv parts. Anyhow, here is the link to replace the colorwheel:

2) Other possible problem can be of DMD board which is like a heart of a tv. It controls other tv parts to project the image on the screen. If it is malfunctioning, the possible problem in this case might be that it is sending uncontrolled signals (or current) to colorwheel and other tv parts, which might be resulting in unusual spinning of the colorwheel. This is why you might be hearing the buzzing sounds.

With all being said I would first try to replace the colorwheel, since the likelihood of bad colorwheel is more. Hopefully it should solve your problem. And if you need one, you can buy here:

Good Luck!
