HLR5067WX/XAA will not stay on with new lamp

I have a 5 year old Samsung HLR5067WX/XAA that has been perfect and has needed no repairs or parts until last week when it started shutting down with the "lamp" indicator flashing.

After I replaced the original lamp with a new one last night going through the "power off - mute+1+8+2+power" procedure. The Option/Lap item in the menu says "OK".

Now it will not stay on. When I power it up, the "Lamp" light flashes about about 5 times then the screen slowly lights up. After about 15 - 20 seconds the picture is awesome. Next, I notice a few "blinks", maybe 5 or so; then the screen goes blank and a few seconds later the sound goes off.

I have reseated the lamp and gone through the procedure several times, each time getting the same results.

The three lights all flash now.

The company I bought the lamp from says I nneed to replace the ballast now because the new lamp, the one they sold me, requires more power than the original lamp.

Does this sound right to you?

Any ideas anyone?
