Working on HLT6187SX/xaa

Postby zplugger » Wed Oct 08, 2014 3:26 pm

Hello everyone, new here so I hope I don't ask to many questions. At 61 my mind loves new knowledge. My tv is getting the white dot problem, after reading it seems like the DLP chip.I think I can replace it after watching some you tube videos, other then white dots tv working good. I guess this model has no lamp and color wheel?,Please help me on this. I notice on my SMPS board it has 1 bulging capacitor, should I change this?. Hate to work on something that's not broke, like to prevent problems down the road. Another question is the large mirror in the tv,can I clean this?, having trouble getting front screen off to do this. Maybe screws in bottom inside tv holding the bottom frame?, has anyone cleaned this before. Any suggestions you have I will appreciate.

Hello and welcome!

I love projection TVs because most parts are plug and play (no cut or soldering) so its perfect for people who like to fix it themselves!

And yes you are correct the white dots begin to appear once the DMD mirrors begin to fail (each white dot is one micro mirror!!)

Please take a look at the video below for it will be what you will find inside your TV:

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the info grayfox

What about the bulging capacitor, should I replace them or wait until it quits?

Hello,

Yes of course sorry i skipped over that, sounds like you feel more than comfortable soldering, if you can get that cap, I would try it first.

This still will not explain the white dots though.. but it might need to be done anyways, might as well get it out of the way.

Good luck!
