HL72A650- no lamp

Postby runwhatyabrung » Mon Nov 03, 2014 2:29 am

Finally....

Alright here's my diagnosis so far.

Unit cycles 3 times then shuts off 3 lights blinking.

338 volts from power board to ballast- then bleeds off quickly to constant 9.

5 volts from DMD board.

Tried 4 different lamps which came with unit.

Checked 6 MOSFETs on ballast 4 checked close to the same. 2 on the outer edge under the heat sink shield checked under.

Thoughts???

Angel if you read this please call me! Number on your voicemail!

Hello,

I noticed you talked to Angel, so pretty much I have to agree completely.

I think if you install a brand new ballast Samsung part number BP47-00029A and an oem Philips bulb in model BP96-01600A this TV will fire right up. Everything you mention seems to be up.

PS: I know Angel was looking for the colorwheel for this model and FYI its BP96-02069A

Hope this helps!

Great Thanks gray fox!

He said your the man!

Like I said everything else checks good. I tried to check everything before ordering anything.

I would like to come up with an extra color wheel or any extra parts to keep this sucker running being thatI just bought it.

As soon as iI get the parts I will post ( hopefully good news!

I GUESS NOT...

Can you get the screen up for any amount of time? Reason I ask is that after doing a little research on this model, the DV board seems to be a popular culprit and the best way of testing it would be by hooking up analog vs digital signals (like HDMI vs Coax)

Grayfox....THANK YOU!

I was beginning to give up here.

Lamp will still not light. New ballast and lamp from DM (OEM).

Color wheel intact and black strip present and cleaned. I do hear it spin.

All fans work. 3 lights blink after the 3 attempts to light lamp.

Standby red light lit when first plugged in.

As stated before 5 volts coming from DMD board.

Have tried to jumper temp and blue lock out switch. No change.

Could this still be power board? I'm running out of things to check.

ALSO... should the power button on unit glow blue when pished ?

Remote does turn unit on.

Thoughts???

Hi,

Yes the light on the panel should come on (if no other*) to inform the TV is on. No I am still skeptical this can be a DMD issue, but unfortunatelly we need to power on the TV to find out. I am beginning to incline and loosing faith in your colorwheel.

PS: I just ran into Angel at our main offices, your name came up..! he says he received a VM but no calls. He will contact you promptly, but he is not that good of a technician =P please tell him I said that.

Gray fox...

Laugh...

Thanks for the quick reply...I appreciate it!

He mentioned the same to me. He told me he was working on trying to help me get some parts to try.

Here's my big question... can I get a 1579A color wheel and try it out? Are the segments on the color wheel different from model to model?

Or do you have a source for a color wheel?

I do here it whizzing around but who knows if its the correct RPM. And this would all make sense. If the cw doesn't send the signal to DMD board it will never firethe lamp... right?

Thanks Fox man!

Hello,

The part number that should work, I found to be BP96-02069A, where did you get the one you mentioned? if you hear the whirling its most likely defective and not gaining enough RPMs.. you are also correct the colorwheel when malfunctioning cuts the power to the ballast and prevents the tv from turning on to prevent damage to other internal parts..

As for a source mine is eBay and Angel. Some local techs more than anything they have "recovered" parts, but no online store =( let me look around too..!

Gray fox

I haven't made any color wheel purchase. I really need to make an informed purchase before I buy a cw.

I could even take a video if that would help?

So... that's the ONLY wheel that will work? What makes this assembly so distinct from other CW's???? Is it the color wheel itself OR the motor speed per model?

Any help be SO appreciated!!!!

Do you have a direct extension I can talk to You. I can't get ahold of Angel ( maybe on this trip).

Thanks

Hello,

No unfortunately I use spare time at my job to help around this and other blogs, I know people in every company like Angel for this one, etc.

Well yes and yes, Colorwheels vary in shapes sizes current etc.. but I am looking at the images and I do not see any difference (I have some non working ones) maybe if the voltage is different... It is still worth a try since most Samsungs are compatible every which way...

GF

Here's what I'm getting at before I spend $300 on a color wheel!

Can I take one ( let's say a 1579A) and set it in the light engine, plug it in and see if the bulb will fire????

That way I know for sure its the color wheel... I'm not worried about picture right now....

Any luck with any spare parts for this thing yet???

Thanks

Hey GF

Did another look at color wheel. I think you nailed it.

The wheel doesn't spin freely. It hangs up around 180 degrees into a revolution.

HELP.....!!!!!

That is a veryyy good question and if my mentor (Angel) could not answer it, I don't think I have come across this either.. let me see if i can rig one of the skeletons I have to see the standby/ignition status and let you know if successful

Hey GF

Thanks!

Talked to Angel and ordered a 1579A CW.... gotta start somewhere since I can't find one!

Hope I can light the lamp.

I just thought on most Samsungs they have a blue horse shoe in the power button. Let me know.

My CW looks to be toast. The connector and small plastic clips are rather toasted and crumbling. The ribbon is coming apart close to the wheel itself.

Have you ever had the wheel off the motor and bearing? Is the ring just pressed on there???

Does ANYONE REPLACE these motors out your way. I would be tempted to send the old CW out to have a new motor put in this assembly.

Thanks R

HI,

Yeah, that burning out of the ribbon will happen with time&heat, its common.

I take colorwheels apart all the time by just fidgeting with them, but I am afraid once you remove the aluminum wheel from the magnetic "air" bearing, its done for... the balancing on those is too precise, I do not know anyone that reworks them sorry..

So hey you got a hold of Angel, I have an ongoing relationship with his voicemail haha

Hey R

So...the power button SHOULD light up?? Does this affect any other function of the unit? How do you fix it????

I don't know what I'm going to do if this new CW spent work... I'll be screwed!

Yeah... he said something's wrong with his call transfer to his cell phone... hell I tried for a week to get ahold of him!

Should have new wheel Tomm or Thurs. Angel was asking if pickup was the same on the two models.

I really hope I can make it work.

Thanks

Hey S,

Yeah he texted me something likewise, and do not worry if the original CW pops up on eBay or Amazon etc... Angel will find it!

Um well to properly diagnose the TV would have to come on, but since it cycles then I think it might just be the LED that went out..

Let us know once you get this!

Thanks R!!!!!

I should have it Tomm.... I will install. Sing a hymn and hope like heck it works.

That's great to know. I didn't think Angel was still looking for parts for me. Awesome!

I'm starting to see why there's not many of these out there anymore AND when you DO find them they are cheap b/c people simply gave up! Are parts this difficult to find for other brands????

I'll post as soon as I get it together.

If it works you may hear me yelling with joy out your way!!!!

Thanks again

Hey R

Alright... now Im disappointed but NOT BEAT yet...

Got new color wheel today. Installed confirmed ribbon connector correct.

Fired it up...cycled 3 times. Then shut off. NO LAMP. The clicks sound a bit different than before. Now it does a short click just before last cycle and powers off.

I also bridges blue panel switch and temp sensor... no change.

Same 3 flashing lights up front. I hear a slight hissing coming from power board...is that normal? Is it possible power board is failing?

You have my full attention on suggestions....

Thanks

Oooookkkk... R

After waiting a week... I decided to take upon myself to try new avenues...

I purchased a HLS4676SX/XAA which has the SAME power board (1002A). This unit fired up and had the white snow all over the screen (bad DMD) chip I assume? But I knew the power board was good... so I swapped the board to my 72" monster.

Powered it up....... NO change lamp won't fire!

NOW WHAT??????

Round 12

I unhooked the cw sensor lead from DMD board.

Fired up the unit and checked for any volt reading coming from the sensor... NADA

SO... does that mean the cw pickup is BAD?????.

If the pickup isnt reading the wheel the unit will NEVER fire the lamp!!!!

Need input!

Hi and happy holidays!

Well yes you are correct if its not picking up then it will tell the DMD board to cut power to the ballast..!

I could not find even a carcass (the metal colorwheel housing) lying around for me to send to you, sorry.

That BP96-02069A is kind of rare, if it has not picked up I suggest you return this one you tried for a refund, and cross you fingers.

Last time I think I replaced one with Angel for one of my clients we took a "like" Assembly with the correct bare colorwheel and put them together CAREFULLY, it turned out to be expensive but time was of the essence and we couldn't wait for one to come up or be posted don ebay..

It was not cheap but they assured refunds so we gave it a go and it worked, I believe the links we used were:

For the Housing and pick up sensor:

http://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-BP96-01579A-ASSEMBLY-COLOR-Original/dp/B001DPY0VG/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t

For the Original bare colorwheel:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Samsung-BP96-02069A-Replacement-Color-Wheel-Na99-Tested-Guaranteed-/111305245207

Maybe you can try the bare colorwheel first and save a bit on the housing? they both assured us refund-ability I remember that much!

I'll be in touch if I spot anything online!

Thanks for patience....

Just need to have a connection to assist me...

I posed this question to angel... Can I test the pulse pickup board on the color wheel????

I will be sending pics of this board to Angel per his request. I have called some local shops trying to find a junk cw with this same board. No luck so far.

If I can test this board if will tell the tale quickly.

I would think if I can get a pulse... EVEN WITH a different color segment wheel... I can get the lamp to light.

Thanks

Yes in theory that could work, however in order to give you the exact readout i need one present to test myself or look over my notes for this model

This is a tall order let me gather my notes and get back to you! Did Angel have any idea?

Hi! no yes to my understanding the pick up board just reads the "pulse" a certain RPM. like all meters we need to find out what that certain RPM is, the color panes should have no effect. I got the images form Angel, we fixed one of these in February and parts were not as scarce!

Hi,

no not finding any around, yes its very rare they go out but I have always changed them for a samsung "look alike" and it has never failed me.. I was looking for one with no luck, Even my colleagues warehouses and nothing, I will keep looking though.. I was talking to Angel and he asked me to look into the fried (or dry/cracked) ribbons on your OG. Is this the case with the pick up ??

Yes... the pickup sensor wires are brittle and the insulation is coming off.

OG????

The ribbon on the original color wheel motor is loosing its backing. BUT I got the new cw from Angel but it didn't come with pickup.

Do the new color wheels from DM come with new pick up?????

If I could just find a junk color wheel I could rob the sensor to try!!!!!

Do you have an email or can you find my email in angels forward to you and send me a message.

Thanks

I really believe one of the sensors at the end of the board are bad. When I test them with a meter I get weird readings.

Hello,

A friend is sendig me some CW cores he has (mostly damaged glass panels so the housings should be good), I will look for a pick up board that matches what you have hopefully there's a compatible i was told by a senior tech that the Mitsubishi Diamond series 70+ screens some use this colorwheel.. If there's one in the pile I'll PM you to ship it your way to try..

Rands

After looking at this cw it looks like these wheels are pressed on the motor with the outer hub ring.

I would like to get ahold of a cw and see if I could disassemble one.

I've even seen searching for a Mitsy 70+ like you mentioned.

Another note... on my new 46" Sammy, where can I find the factory settings for adjustment of pic?

After looking at service menu it looks like the bulb has around 12900 hrs on it but I think its a osam bulb and not Phillips original. I haven't replaced it yet. Maybe on borrowrd time.

Thanks

You heard from Angel???? Is he still gone?

Hey there,

Oh sure that little piece should at least rule out everything incoming from colorwheel..

I couldn't find the Samsung OEM stats online, but you can run an update if available using a USB from http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

This might reset your board..

Sure send me a PM if you are around my shop is small i mostly work from my garage, just do the office suite for taxes and hire help..

Oh no yeah he does contracting aside from his desk job, globe trotter, he called from the game this weekend and asked about you, told him I am doing what I can.. Sorry if there's not much floating around, I'll keep my eyes open and be in touch.

Let me know if the firmware update worked =)

Happy Holidays

Yes... if I get that way I will look you up... bet I'll learn something!

I want to run something by you.... would it be possible to run a 67" LED light engine in my 72" unit?? Did Sam ever make a 72" LED?

I've been looking around for a 67a750 as a plan b if I can't fix this unit.

Yeah I think he's a fish out of water...lol! I can NEVER reach him anymore... maybe he's screening his calls..lol!

Do you ever run into Annabelle or know her?

Thanks

Hello,

Just got back from a short trip, Happy New Year!

So I heard from A to begin looking for an entire light engine, broaden our search. Seems logical since most come with the colorwheel. I am on the case, I'll be in touch!

Happy New Year to You!

Hope you had a nice break!

Yes... FINALLY got ahold of A and he said maybe we can try this direction. I'm surprised these p/u sensors are so hard to find... is it specific to this wheel???

Thanks again!
