HLR6167 intermittant red-green tinting

Postby jrg5919 » Fri Jan 02, 2015 6:26 pm

Replaced lamp with Phillips bulb but not with OEM housing. Contacts with new housing melted and had to replace ballast and used original OEM housing with new bulb. Picture is great but after set is on for 2 hours it starts to get intermittent red to green tinting that lasts a few seconds then recurs in a few minutes. If the set is shut off for about 5 minutes it takes about ten minutes for the tinting to return. This happens on all inputs including cable, antenna, dvd. Never had this issue before. No noise coming from the color wheel when this is happening.

Hello,

Wow melting? with this particular model (and others similar from Samsung) you have to make sure you install the lamp securely!

The fix you describe seems appropriate to change everything using OEM components.

The issue you are describing however, in my opinion cannot be caused by the lighting element. This is notorious of a failing or aged colorwheel,

This is sometimes accompanied by a whirling or grinding sounds, maybe even humming.. do you hear anything out of the ordinary?

No noise other than the fan. I just don't get why it takes two hours for the problem to start.

Its not a DV board issue, maybe the colorwheel might be heating up, and start malfunctioning.. have you tried placing a fan in the back of the tv to keep it "cool" and check to see if its a part thats over heating..
