HL-S6187W 3 blinking lights

My trusty old DLP TV finally gave me the 3 blinking lights. I turn on the TV, and the picture is fine, then a few minutes later the picture goes out, sound is still ok, and then shuts down w/ the 3 blinking lights. The manual says this is a bulb issue but if the bulb is dead, I would not expect any picture at all, but I always get a good picture for a couple of minutes before I get the 3 lights again. Is it really just a bulb swap, or is it suggesting something more serious? Just want to know before I buy a new bulb (those things aren't cheap!)

I read on another forum that soumehad the 3 blinking light, they changed the bulb and still had same issue. They then changed the ballast and prob still there. I would first check the powere supply boards, there may be 1 or 2 in your set and dod a visual inspection of the caps, look for the slightest bulge
