61" samsung green screen of death.

Postby Wrench » Fri Jul 31, 2009 5:53 am

I have a 61" samsung dlp tv that the screen turns green and it freezes up. I have narrowed it down to the analog board. Does anyone know what ic goes bad on the board. I can do component level work. I am just unsure which chip to replace.

Im not to sure about hdmi, I dont have anything that uses that but If I use it as a computer monitor it works fine. Its just the cable and rca that causes the green screen.I have had it work for a whole day but as soon as I shut it off and try to turn it back on It goes to the green screen and freezes up.

Yes the menu always shows up. The color is normal on the menu and you can move around in it.

Im starting to think your right it may be the dmd board. Is there anyway to repair it or do I have to replace the whole thing?

What I dont get is that the tv runs a signal through the analog board then the digital board and then the dmd board. Once there a picture is displayed on the screen. So if the digital inputs work fine wouldnt that rule out the digital and dmd board, leaving the problem at the analog board. I worked as a computer tech for years and am certified in board level repair. If the problem is the same in most tv's and its a specific chip. Does anyone know which chip it is and where to find a replacement, or am I going about this wrong?

You're right, if your problem only appears when an analog input is being displayed, the problem should be there. However as far as I know the analog board can't freeze the menu, and that's what I understood from your second post. But now that you clarified that, I agree with you. I don't know what chip could be wrong but we know the problem is there.

it's most likely the digital board. the digital board puts out an dvi cable that goes into the dmd board. think of the dmd board as being a computer monitor. and the digital board as being a computer video card. if your tv is a model HL-R6167W this is a comon issues. I posted a fix for the HL-R5067W and the same fix should fix the hl-r6167w green screen issue as well. also if you use your PIP the PIP shouldn't be green but the rest of the screen will be. the digital board can be replaced by yourself for a cost of around 238 dollars if you buy it from http://www.ued.net/ued/addItems.do?item ... P94-02084A make sure your part number on the digital board is part number BP94-02084A. this digital board is a common thing to go bad in about 2 and half years to 3 years on average. thats why you should try the fix. thats the most comon issue. both links talk about this issue.
