Colorwheel??? Another question in OP

Postby mstennes » Sat Aug 08, 2009 3:02 pm

I replaced the bulb and then the ballast, now my picture kind of flows in the colors from reds to pink/flesh on skin and the blue and greens kind of blend and go back and forth. When I did the ballast I removed the color wheel first as when I originally replaced my bulb the picture still didnt work, so then I inspected the color wheel as advised and found nothing wrong, than replaced my ballast. What would make the color wheel do that when it worked perfectly prior to my inspection? Could I have not got the ribbon wire in correctly, or maybe touched the wheel with my finger and it needs cleaning?
HELP!!!!!
Thanks,
Mike

ETA, Would the color wheel cause the above problem or are my troubles/problems deeper? I cant figure it out since the picture was perfect UNTIL the bulb went out, now I'm having all sorts of new problems?

As in, when its on the menu screen do the colors fade, like when your watching it on a show?

ETA, Yes it does, it does it on the menu screen, when there is no input and you see the ant races, as well as when your actually watching tv.
Thanks

If I recall well the color wheel has two cables which are orange and white (I think it is connected to the color wheel housing) so probably one cable wasn't plugged correctly or it wasn't plugged, both cables go attached to the DMD board, but if they were plugged correctly then maybe the color wheel isn't spinning at the right speed causing this problem. These are the most common symptoms of a defective color wheel:

You'll hear winding, whirling or screeching noise
You'll feel vibrations in the TV
Picture shows poor color, under saturated or over saturated
Picture is in black & white
Picture is intermittently in color and black & white
The picture is showing the wrong color like the skin tones are pink or green

In this forum you'll find more information about color wheel problems: http://forum.ecoustics.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ ... or%20wheel

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, its not making any noises it didnt before I tore into it, so I didnt get the wires that slide (copper colored) in good enough or I did something to it when I removed it to check for anything wrong with it.

Access the service menu (In Standby mode, press "Mute", 1, 8, 2, "Power")

Select DDP1011 → TEST PATTERN → Press the right arrow key. Test all of the color patterns, if one or more of these patterns are affected by your problem the culprit is the DMD board.

Yep, they are all affected. Which DMD board do I need? My set is a Samsung, HL67A510J1F. How can so many things go wrong at once? My bulb went out first, then upon installing a new buld, I discovered my ballast was out, at least nothing happenedd until I installed a new ballast and a second bulb, now my DMD board? What next??????

ETA, Discount merchant has eleven  , http://www.discount-merchant.com/Search ... ch=Samsung DMD

Use this color wheel replacement guide: , follow the steps until you have the light engine out, the DMD is the board in the light engine.

Hope this helps.

Could the color wheel go bad when I took it apart? All conections are good and clean. Could any plugs be in the wrong spot?
