HLN5065W1X/XAA model DLP whirs, flashes 3 lights

The TV starts flashing the 3 lights, we hear whirring noises, TV blanks out, but we have to unplug it to turn it off. Any ideas?

Sounds like the color wheel. Check it physically, use this guide to take it out: .

So, even though the picture looks fine right up until this happens, you think it is the color wheel?

It's a possibility, It might be having problems spinning, not necessary is damaged, so your picture looks fine for a moment.
If that's not the problem it could be also a fan.
