Samsung HL-S5087W makes knocking sounds at start

I have a Samsung HL-S5087W that makes knocking sounds at startup. Once on the picture is visible but goes from bright to dim consistently while on. I've already changed the bulb and ballast with same results. Any help would be appreciated.

bright to dim can be a few things.. there's a board that controls the brightness/contrast.. that could be bad.. or there's a power supply problem.... or you still have a ballast problem, which helps to regulate voltage to the lamp. let us know what you come up with!

I have a Samsung dlp HL-S6187W that sounds like it is doing something similar to yours (see detailed post I put on here today). I would REALLY like to know if and how you solve this issue. I will do the same if I solve my issue.
