HLP6163W Colors all blotchy

Postby TimeBender » Mon May 30, 2011 11:56 pm

Hi!

Bought my Samsung HLP6163W 6 years ago worked great changed the lamp 2 years ago no problem but since the last few days the color appear all blotchy/smudgy especially yellow. eg If you are looking at a white wall it looks as if it has yellow patches all over.

Does this mean it's the color wheel or the dmd baord?.

Thanks

IT can be either, if the image itself is fine the distortion lies only in the color, you can troubleshoot by lowering the "color" setting down to a black and white, if there are no more distortions when looking at a black and white picture, I am 90% sure this is a colorwheel issue, and while you are changing this I would preemptively install a new lamp or at least have one handy... just a tip! ;)

hope this helps

Hi!

Is there a way to narrow this any further so that I don't buy a color wheel if not required?

Thanks

well if you lower the color settings and the black and white picture still gets "blotchy it can be the DMD board, some shots of the screen or a more detailed description of the distortion would help ;) its hard to diagnose over a forum :P

Hi!

I will take a few screen shots, try out your suggestions and come back in a day to two.

Thanks :)
