Samsung HLP6163W No Picture

Postby jodiemarsh » Mon Jun 13, 2011 8:58 pm

When turning on our Samsung HLP6163W , we get a picture for about 30 seconds, then wavy white lines, then a black screen. The sound continues to work. The bulb and fans are working correctly and we replaced the color wheel several months ago. Is this a problem with the DMD board? Does anyone know the replacement part for this exact TV? Is this part as easy to replace as the color wheel?

Thanks for your help!

This does not necessarily need to be a DMD issue, It can be an input or Digital Video board. Do you get the same malfunction on all inputs??

Yes, we get the same malfunction on all inputs and the menu mode. Looks great for 30 sec to a couple minutes, then the picture disappears. No flashing lights and the bulb is still on.

hmmm I think it might be an error with the Digital video board, have you tried a Digital signal like a HDMI?

Not sure what you mean by HDMI?

We could never get that cable to work and we don't have a blue ray player or PS3. Any idea where I can get a digital video board for the TV? Its worth a try to replace as we hate to scrap the entire TV.

sure I get most of my clients parts from www.discount-merchant.com, however I would advise getting the actual part number off the board you are replacing, since Samsung tends to play jump rope with their parts and models

We finally got around to changing the digital video board. This did not fix the problem. TV worked great for about 30 minutes, then black screen with only sound. Any other ideas?

I know you posted that your lamp was fine from the beginning, but can I ask how old it is?

18 months to two years old. I guess we assumed it wasn't the bulb because it is still on.

Wow that is a good life span for a lamp, usually my client need to swap it on a yearly basis, I would recommend trying out a new lamp as this is the most common problem!
