Hello:
I have a Samsung HL-S5687WX and it shuts off by itself and there is also a Black shadow on the right side of the screen. I have had the TV for about 3 years now. I have never replaced the Lamp. While it was under warranty the TV starting shutting itself off and a technician came and fixed it. At that time there was no shadow. The shadow doesn't seem to be getting bigger. Im not sure what I should try to replace first. Based on what Ive read the shadow is most likely from a bad light tunnel...not sure if that is also causing it to shut off?
thoughts?

Yikes, sounds like it might be a light tunnel!

I did have info were samsung was repairing light tunnels for free even thoe they are out of warranty.

Customers who own a Samsung HLR or HLS model year DLP TV, and experience a “border-shadow” impact caused by the light tunnel, should call Samsung’s service department at 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864) and arrange for an authorized service technician to perform the service repair free of charge.”

Just to let all know I just got off phone with Samsung and they are fixing my light tunnel for free can u belive it holly crap tv 5 yrs old has worked perfectly exept for the shadow I cant believe I found this site THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFO WOULD BY U A CASE OF BEER IF U WERE HERE...
