Samsung 67inch DLP color went out

i have a samsung 67inch dlp and as i was watching tv it sounded like something popped inside of the television then suddenly the color went out and it began to make a loud buzzing noise. Now the tv only displays in black and white eventhough the picture is still clear. And everytime the tv is on it makes the loud humming noise which causes the tv to vibrate. What could be wronG?

I am thinking your color wheel broke. it maybe still spinning and thats why the tv still comes on.

if you are handy you can open it up and replace the color wheel. look up the part number on www.samsungparts.com and then check out http://www.discount-merchant.com/?Click=38489 for the part number in case the price is lower. you can also check ebay.

ps. the color wheel is inside the light engine. you have to slide it forward and then there is like a metal cover over it that has fins kind of like an motorcycle moter. should have 2 screws holding it up. then it just pulls up. then there are two screws that hold in the color wheel. remove them. and there should be one or two wires that should unplug from the dmd board. one will be a flat ribbon cable. make sure to plug in the new color wheel the same way as the old one.

what happens sometimes with the color wheels the barrings start to go out and then they hit into the casing and it makes the disc shatter. Also it would be good to use your sweeper to suck up broken color wheel.

thanks you soo much you gave me hope just in time for playoffs i will keep you inform on my progress.would this also cause the tv to turn off after a couple of minutes?

yes it would. it sends a signel to the ballast that makes the lamp turn on. if it's not spinning right then the singel isn't right and it will turn off.
