Damaged Mitsu DLP

I picked up an open box Mitsu DLP from Amazon. It showed up with a big black streak across the screen (see pic). Does anyone recognize this issue? I'd much rather repair the unit than return it if that option is not too expensive. I suspect it might be a damage light tunnel but I'd like an experts opinion before making the decision.

Wow, I've never seen this before, But if you have a warranty no point on spending extra money fixing it on your own.
It almost looks like the screen is cracked/broken from the picture you posted.
If you can post another pic and add more into the symptoms.
