WD-73738 shutting off.

I have a Mitsubishi WD-73738. The TV has started shutting off after it is has been turned on from anywhere between a couple of minutes to 15 to 20 minutes. I've gone into the service menu and there are two error codes showing up. Error 34, Lamp Cartridge Failure, and Error 48, PWB-Main Failure. Most of the time I'm getting and error 34, and probably one out of 4 times I'm getting an error 48.

When the issue happens, I hear what sounds like a relay, switching off then on then off, maybe 3 or 4 times in a row, then the TV shuts off. The LED on the front of the TV stays solid RED most of the time this happens. Sometimes though, it flashes the error code 48 (Red blinks 4 times, Yellow blinks 8 times).

I've taken out the Lamp, and it looks ok. The lamp has 5,648 hours on it. Do you think the lamp is starting to go bad and the controller is sensing a short, thereby giving me the error 48 or is there something else I need to replace?

Hello,

I am almost certain that with that much use your TV needs a new lamp! That clicking sound you are hearing is the ballast trying to ignite the spent lamp.

Maybe you can take it out for a physical inspection? The Lamp model for WD-73738 is a Mitsubishi 915B441001 and in my personal experience OEM Philips lamps last longer and give a brighter image.

I hope this helps
