WD 60738 screen flickers

Postby billmudd » Wed Sep 03, 2014 11:26 pm

The lamp popped on our WD60738. We replaced the lamp and it worked fine for about a week now after the tv has been on for awhile the screen starts to flicker then it stops. The picture is fine for about 20 minutes then it starts to flicker again. One time it started to flicker then the screen went black and the red light came on the tv, after turning the tv off for awhile everything came back on and it was fine for awhile then it starts to flicker again.

Hello,

Sorry to hear that, most of the times it is just a bad lamp with Mits DLP (believe me I have one).

Since you just replaced the lamp, and the symptoms are those of a faulty/spent lamp, I have to ask if you purchased an OEM Mitsubishi 915B441001?

The ones I put on my TV are normally Original Philips bulbs, they project the brightest images. The only time I have had the same experience as the one you describe is the time I purchased a generic online for like 30 dlls...

I hope this helps!

It can be if the lamp is not genuine, can I ask where you purchased it?

Amazon and eBay are swamped with knock offs!

Do you get any color distortion at all or any whirling humming noises from the TV? the colorwheel can cause a flicker if not properly spinning at the rpms necessary..

We purchased the genuine Phillips lamp from discount tv lamps. The tv went out twice today so we are having a tech come out tomorrow and see what the problem could be. I will post the results tomorrow.

The tech came out and ran diagnostics on the TV and found out that the optic assembly was starting to go. They said that the optic assembly cost for a refurbished one is around $600 and a new one is around $1200.

wow so the Light engine is out.. did he mention a specific part? not to second guess your tech, but maybe its just a colorwheel? or a particular board?.. Do you have his exact diagnostic?

Also you can make sure if the tech is NESDA certified at their website http://nesda.com/
