Mitsubishi 73638 Flickering Brightness

Postby Irwin93 » Tue Jan 05, 2016 1:58 am

My screen seems to flicker on brightness every now and then for a few minutes. It looks like the lamp is ready to go but its only a couple months old. I thought it might be due to dust and dirt in the back of the set. Any suggestions???

Bulb longevity does not matter if it is a generic bulb. I've seen them burn out 45 minutes after they've been replaced. The ballasts could also be going bad. See if you can download a service manual. That would help troubleshoot the issue for you.

For just about $70 these days you can treat your set and your eyes to the best quality bulbs on the market, made by Phillips or Osram VIP. Given the life you're getting out of this set, it seems a reasonable investment. I was a skeptic about bulb quality for a long time, but after refurbishing almost two dozen DLP's from the 08 and 07 era, I am now a firm believer that quality trumps savings when it comes to illumination in these sets. Good luck.
