Hi!

Normally a popping sound would be associated with a lamp blowing at the end of its life span! If this was a DLP it most likely would be the sound of the glass colorwheel shattering and the bearing spinning the rest of its contents. But to my knowledge this Sony has an optical LCD block... (no colorwheel) :!: so the lamp could have shattered in such a way that glass actually reached a fan? :?: :?: :?:

I would advise to unplug your TV for several hours and begin taking the lower part of the back shell off to take a visual look and let me know!
