toshiba 56HM66 wont hold settings

Postby sulloj » Mon Mar 28, 2011 11:07 am

Hi All,
I've replaced the light engine on my 56HM66 and it's working great. I've made the initial settings such as input/antenna 1/cable/scanned channels etc. Then set up audio and video settings and adjusted contrast, color, sharpness etc. bass/treble etc. All good except when I turn off the set it loses all those settings! I turn the set on and have to adjust all the picture and audio settings, thus: tv wont hold those settings! (antenna/cable/channels settings are ok. they hold)
I've read the manual over and over, tried resetting the tv to factory settings (twice) but same results. I'm not sure what could be wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
Depending on the setting and inputs, does this happen globally? that is, if you adjust the bass/treb on the cable, does it change when moved to DVD?

I just tried it with some other inputs and same results. Will not hold settings.
Of Note: software version is 2.1.62.0 Aug 17 2006 10-52-09 FW:34 such is the reading from the screen.
UPDATE: I just spoke to Toshiba tech support and they are sending me out the latest software. Their rep seems to think this will fix the issue. Will update when I get the software

Wow you actually received support from Toshiba? you have to remember the name of that rep and share ;)
please keep us posted, I have never seen this malfunction, but it does sound like it could use a hard reset or an update in the firmware... :geek:

Well the guy I got said he is an "upper tier tech" and he happened to know there was a softwear update. Told me he is sending it out (supposed to be on some kind of sd card with an adaptor? I don't know where I'm supposed to plug this sucker in (tech guy said there is a hidden slot above the cable card opening but I haven't seen anything) so I guess I'll have to wait for it to arrive with the instructions.
BTW: I own three different HD DVD Players and have called them for firmware updates in the past. The tech guy marveled about how many toshiba products I have, so maybe that's why he treated me so good.

Wow, you are in fact a fan of Toshiba! for some reason their DLP TVs are the only ones that use Direct Current (D/C as opposed to A/C) lamps...
I LOVE their laptops, I used to be way into DELL but my girlfriend brought home a Toshiba Satellite and I jumped ship!

UPDATE
I received the SD card with an upload tool from Toshiba. Ran the update last night.
TV still works great but STILL will not hold the settings!
There must be something inside the tv that is supposed to hold power to a memory or something that controls the settings. Anyone have any help here?
