toshiba 65hm167

Postby scm37 » Sat Jun 04, 2011 12:11 am

Hi, I see all kinds of subjects discussed here. Someone even "mentioned" a place to send the light engines for repair. Only thing is she didn't say where that place is. I have one white spot on my screen. About two, maybe three weeks. Everything I read says "light engine" and that it will continue to get worse. So, can anyone tell me the name or even phone number of a light engine repair center?
Thanks, Steve

Well I would recommend taking a look at the NESDA website they have a directory of techs that are registered with them, myself included! but it is nothing you cannot do yourself, its just a bunch of screws and plugs nothing to cut or solder!

I have no problem taking it out of there, I just don't know what to do with it when I get it out. Seems as though all info is pointing at the dmd chip. But toshiba doesn't have that in their parts list. I even tried Texas Inst. They're no help, and neither are their "group" of distributors. They don't sell to consumers.

Nope, discount-merchant does not have it. I did find a place that will sell me a dmd chip for $200.00 but I don't know what procedures need to be done to install it. Does it need setup, or calibration?

DMD chip is different drom the DMD board, you need the DMD board...

OK, so GF you are the only person discussing this with me, but you seem to be only half listening/half answering?? Is there something going on I am unaware of?
Info available to me is that a tiny mirror contained "inside" the dmd chip is stuck, causing a white spot on my tv's display. I have a part number, a supersceding part number and an even newer number than the supersceded one. I have an older toshiba 62hm94 that I picked up free. Took light engine out and took dmd board and dmd chip off to look at them. The dmd chip looks exactly like the pictures of all the dmd chips I have seen on the internet. It isn't even soldered on this board. So, If I can buy a dmd chip and the white spot on my tv is because the dmd chip is bad, why would I want to replace the board and not the chip???

I think we are misunderstanding each other  , my comment was to merely point out the differences ;) I only post to help.
if your tv has been diagnosed to have a faulty DMD CHIP :!: then you do not need the complete DMD BOARD  that is what I was hinting at sorry if it was misleading. :?
It is as you stated part of it / on it. And yes digital micro mirrors all look the same :o great right?! and they mount kind of like a processor on a PC no soldering just mounted and braced :|

hope this helps / clears up any previous post.

Well, don't think I don't appreciate your info! I do. We do seem to have gotten off topic, tho. I originally hoped to find a place to send my light engine for diagnoses and repair. You gave me a place that sells them, but doesn't have the one I need. Any idea where I can send it? there was an older post from someone else on this forum, but now I don't remember who and it was from '09 or something like that. So looking for some current info.
And on another note! What has been attributed to this overall failure of these supposed extremely reliable devices. I type many different combinations of phrases in google but I can't find ANY info explaining WHY these things are failing?
Thanks, Steve

agreed :D and yes it can be frustrating, the technology is fairly simple yet at the same time very complex... i dont know if that one made sense!

Its is simple i n the way that normal consumable parts are mostly limited to lamp, ballast or colorwheel. in 90% of all the clients I had to replace something to; one of these three was the problem!

If you want expert advise that is truly certified (one can get certification from many places). Say I mention I am a Toshiba Certified Tech. wordplay... I am a tech, I know Toshibas because the center I works for says so, and I am a certified technician from a particular school...
But again I digress! go to NESDA.com and they have an online directory you can browse by your zipcode!
