Toshiba 52HMX95 fan noise

Postby witchdoctor » Sat Oct 31, 2009 1:39 am

Set is about 5 years old. Replace original lamp under warranty, so present lamp about 4 1/2 years old. Now I occaisionally, and more frequently have a loud whirring noise when tv is turned on which continues after tv is off. No problems with the picture. Sounds like it is some sort of fan. Could this be part of the bulb unit and need replacing?

Yes, there are several fans inside your DLP. One of them to watch or listen to in particular is the one located near the Lamp and its function is to "cool" the lamps temperature. Another mechanism inside your set is a Colorwheel, and it spins at a high rpm. if there is wear or malfunction on this part there will be some color distortion and spinning/grinding noise. My best advice for now would be to unplug your set and open up the tunnel where you replace the lamp and use a can of air to blow the fan clean.
Let me know if this helps!
