hello japaul,
when you turn the TV on, can you tell if the lamp is igniting or not? (is there backlight on screen?) this might just be a ballast issue if it the lamp is not coming on. If there is backlight but still no picture it can be the A/V input board, can you post a picture of the board you mentioned that has possible damage?

...so the lamp is on so ballast is good, that means it can be almost anything else! the Digital Video board may not be sending a signal, or it may be just the colorwheel, if you wish not to spend any money yet, I would check the colorwheel (this can interrupt video signal to the screen, however it usually also cuts power to the ballast...) any sounds out of the ordinary fans coming from the tv when it is "on" ???
