Help with Samsung HLT5075SX XAA

A friend of mine gave me a Samsung HLT5075SX/XAA because she was tired of replacing the bulbs in it and she knew I wanted another TV. I bought a new bulb (an actual Phillips bulb), put it in and it wouldn't work. It powers on, makes the start up chime, I hear the wheel spinning (which I've confirmed by taking the bulb out and holding the door switch and visually confirming it spins) but it won't turn the screen on. It tries three times and then flashes all three front panel lights which the manual says is a bulb problem.

I did some reading and found that a majority of people suggested it was either the power supply or the ballast. I pulled the bulb, held the switch and watched and listened for the ballast to fire but never saw a spark, never saw the bulb try to light. I heard some very faint clicking noises but can't say where they came from. I pulled the power cable from the ballast and tested it with a volt meter and found it to be 338V DC which from what I've read is acceptable. So I ordered a new ballast. Put it in and the same thing happened. Powers on, hear the color wheel spin, tries three times and powers off with a bulb error. Visually I don't see any issues with the capacitors on the power supply.

What else could it be? If the voltage from the power supply reads fine could it still be the power supply? Could it be something with the color wheel even though I hear and see it spinning? Would something else produce a bulb error?

I don't really have the money to send the TV to a tech. Buying the bulb was enough of a strain, the ballast (which I'd like to return) was even more of a stretch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Keep in mind that even though the color wheel spins it doesn't necessarily mean it's spinning at the correct RPM. If it's spinning slower that what it's supposed to the DMD board detects this and thus shuts down the TV. Check to see if you here a buzzing or humming type sound. If so this can be the wheel starting to act up although they don't always make that sound. The ballast and color wheel are the two other components that are consumable and eventually need replacing. The bulb of course is the most common part top fail but since you have replaced this I am thinking more likely the color wheel is the issue. First check for the sounds I mention. We can go from there. I will be looking out for your response.

Regards,

Thank you for your reply. I don't notice any buzzing or humming although my hearing isn't all that great. I do hear a few very faint clicks though.

I've already replaced the bulb with an OEM and the ballast. Should I try a new color wheel?
