distored imageon screen

Got a problem with a projector? A DLP or LCD projector can have common issues. Why don't you check this forum out before running out to buy a brand new projector?

distored imageon screen

Postby Louisa80 » Tue Apr 01, 2014 9:53 am

Hey guys,

I'm back! We got the projector screen up, the lamp changed and things have been rocking at the home theatre. Only problem is that sometimes when we watch DVDs we have those annoying side bars. Hubbie adjusted the screen using some button of the projector and now the image is really messed up. It's no longer square but larger at the top that on the bottom. It's making me mental. Anyway I can undo what he did? What did he do to the projector?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Louisa,

I can imagine, I sat though an entire Super Bowl once for the fear of making it worse! Can you tell me what your Projector model is?

I want to take a look at the manual and see what kind of keystone adjustment it has. The link below has a short article about this and explains how important projector features like "keystone correction" are. While not all projectors have horizontal keystone correction, most have vertical keystone correction.

Hey there,

My projector is the Optoma Theme Scene H55 projector. I read this article about correcting distorted projector images.

http://www.fixyourdlp.com/2013/10/25/correcting-distorted-1080p-projector-images/

I think hubbie was pressing around with automatic settings for keystone.

Does this have anything to do with aspect ratio?

Soooo confusing!

Thanks for your help.

Hello Louisa,

Well lets keep in mind that keystone correction is there to adjust the image by skewing it in a "trapazoidal" way (if it makes sense).

The only reason you would want to apply manual correction is if your projector is not exactly perpendicular to your screen.

If it is pointed down/up at an angle towards the screen, the image would be smaller on either the top or bottom, which I think is what you are mentioning. To rectify this skewed image you can toggle the keystone correction and "distort" the image to look squared off, thus finding a balanced projected image that "negates" the distortion caused by the image projecting at an angle.

The aspect ratio is basically the screen size, in simple terms take for example:

4:3 Aspect Ratio is the squarish shape associated with conventional TVs.

16:9 Aspect Ratio is a common screen shape used widescreen HDTVs.

This will not be affected by the Keystone adjusting and is mostly concerned with your viewing preferences or aspect of the video content.
