Replaced Lamp, still not working, suggestions?

Postby tblair1024 » Fri Aug 28, 2009 5:47 am

My Grandmother's Samsung HLT6176s was hit by lightning without being connected to a surge protector. The TV still comes on, but there is no picture or audio. The LED's on the front indicate a problem with the lamp, but a technician tried replacing the lamp and the TV still didn't work. Do you have any other suggestions?

When you try to turn it on, Do you hear any unusual noise coming from the TV?

Every few moments there is a click.... like maybe a power source or fan gaining/losing power?

The clicking noise is produced by the ballast, so that is the most probable problem. If you have a voltmeter you can check if it's giving enough voltage.

We removed the back TV cover and determined that whatever component powers the two fans is what is losing power. Does the ballast power the lamp and the two fans? Or could the problem be something other than the ballast? Thanks!

If the TV was struck by lightning then the power supply is probably the first suspect if the fans won't rotate. The fans are plugged into the DMD module on that model so thats why I suspect the digital module as it is responsible for firing the DMD module then the color wheel, lamp and fans.
