Samsung lamp prob?

I have a Samsung HL-T4675S and the original lamp failed a couple of months ago. I bought and installed a new lamp on June 22, 2011 and today, July 16, it failed, or so it seems. Two things cause me to doubt that: this time there was a distinct odor that I can associate/remember as being that of an electronic component "burning" and, the second is that I can measure continuity across the lamp terminals. I have read that one should not do continuity check because of some gap that would show the lamp as being open. If that is true, then why do I measure continuity? Thanks in advance for your help.

:!: :?:
really it has continuity? this lamp has quite an arch gap, unless in its defectiveness it has colapsed and is now making contact... Is this an original Philips lamp?

Yes, the lamp measured zero ohms. However, my case is now closed in that I received a warranty replacement lamp which, to my amazement, worked just fine. I have no idea what the smell was that I assumed to be a component burning. I guess that will remain a mystery.

There is a problem with the HLS- HLT series where you have to replace the SMPS + Ballast + Lamp to solve the issue or it will continue to burn the lamp prematurely.

hello samsungtech,

i think you posted a similar response somewhere but, by "SMPS" et all, you mean this problem can only be fixed completely by changing the power supply, ballast and the lamp??? thank you!

Yep, that is what we've been doing for sets that are/were under warranty and having problems with burning lamps. We were told to replace all 3 items. Power PCB, Ballast and Lamp (if the lamp is bad).

wow, so maybe the root problem lies in the PS?
