DLP HLN5065W Image flickering then Shut Off

Postby Frenchy66 » Fri Feb 05, 2010 11:23 pm

I own this great Tv for 6 years (purchased Dec 03).
Replaced 1st bulb a year ago. Didn't have any issue until now.

For last couple of weeks, after TV is operating for while (few hours), image start to flicker, with little white tone on some part of the image when it does that, almost like some colors are flashing in white (not all screen, only a few of the image elements)

The frequency of the flickering increases until the TV shuts off by itslef, and all 3 lights sensor are blinking as TV is Off.

The TV can be restarted and then operates normally if you wait after a while.

To avoid that currently we turn off the TV for a few minutes when flickering starts, then we can Tv again for a good 45 minutes before the flickering starts again.

I ordered and installed a new replacement lamp but it did not resolve this issue.

Seems like flickering is now starting earlier by the days, started after 3 to 4 hours of operation and now it first starts after only1 1/2 hour.

No unusual noise or click is noticed at any time coming from the TV when any of this is happening.

Also just in the last few days, the Temp sensor light alone goes on (permanent red) after a while, , while the TV is opreating normally, even before the flickering starts.

it is starting to become very frustrating to have to shut the TV off every 45 minutes...

That sound like the digital video board. If you look at the back of your TV you’ll see the HDMI input, the computer monitor input, etc. that’s the board that’s going bad, first of all I recommend you take it out and look for any swollen capacitors, if any you’ll need to replace them, if not then a replacement me be needed. Good luck.

If the Digital Video board is shot, what kind of $$$ are we talking about for a replacement?

The prices are around 120 to 200 bucks. Try searching it by part number, not by model number; you see many models share the same type of board. Remember to look up the part number you have to physically take out the board. Good luck.

My Samsung HLN617W is doing the same exact thing except of the red light temperature problem. I am too getting the flickering and the white distortions every 10-20-30 minutes. Following a series of shutting of the TV for a few and it goes back to normal all before it starts acting up again. A fellow from YOUTUBE who posted a video with the same condition as me says he replaced the DMD board and chip, didnt fix. Could it be the color wheel gone bad?

He is currently getting it fixed today and will let me know if the repair shop corrected it and what way.
