problem with samsung hlp5063wx/xaa

Postby yunique » Mon May 03, 2010 2:52 am

Hello everyone,
I'm very impressed with the knowlede given on this site. Maybe someone can help.
I was watching tv this afternoon, and heard a loud pop, followed by a burning smell, with the picture going black. I then turned off the power cord. Few minutes later I turned it back on and heard a buzzing sound for 1 second, then the lamp light flashes a few times the stops, followed by the red standby light, then repeats the whole process. Any help would be apreciated, last hope for this tv as I am not willing to pay $500 for a technician, to the curb she might go.
Thanks Gene,

I am in the process of trying to get to the lamp. Do you really have to take apart the entire tv?

hi gene, that poping sound it was the lamp the other noise that you describe the buzzing :| it is a symptom of a bad ballast, the ballast is the one that sends the voltage to the lamp in order to make an electricity arc inside of the lamp for ignition, so that buzzing sounds is the ballast making an electricity arc outside of the lamp in the ballast itself, so that is the reason why probably the lamp pop out, the ballast for ignition it sends a big amount of voltage, after iginition it regulates the voltage to a small amount to keep the lamp on, so it could be sending the big amount of voltage and never regulate that and thats why it pop out the lamp or it could be that it is sending the amount of voltage for ignition repedeatly and the lamp can't handle those changes. hope this help. :ugeek:

Thanks jonrot, so when I receive my new lamp, should I put it in, or will it shatter like the the last one?should I order a ballast? Is the a way for me to tell if mine has gone bad?

Thanks a ton guys, I got the new lamp in and it looks better than ever :D . I am kinda waiting for it to explode again :? . I have tried to reset the counter using the mute182power, and the menu182power, neither seem to work. It does seem like something is going on when I hit power, but nothing comes up, just a delayed startup. Are there any other ways to do this?

hi yunique :) , ok so you have a great picture thats very good, well my concern is, do you still have that buzzing sound? or any other sound? and dont worry to reset the lamp timer, i mean do you see the message that you need to replace the lamp???? if you never see it dont worry it didnt let you know the last time that you needed to replace the lamp, hope this helps :ugeek:

Thanks again johnrot, the picture quality is perfect, no buzzing sound either, however it sometimes looks like its about to start up then shuts itself down, then starts itself back up. Not sure why. It ddoesnt bother me to much, but if its fixable that would be good also. Thanks again you saved me about $500 :D
