62HM14 Stopped turning on - 9 blinks

Postby JJG285 » Fri Jan 21, 2011 5:35 pm

I have a 62" toshiba that worked fine for years, recently it stopped turning on so my initial reaction was to replace the bulb. When trying to power the tv on it sounds like it is going to start (i can hear a humming noise which i believe is the color wheel spinning up, and the fans power up) however within a few seconds it kicks itself off, blinks 9 times, then power cycles and starts over again. I am going to do a few voltage check and will reply to this with my findings however if anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated.

hi
well if the TV is a few year old (3+) this may be a ballast issue, give this a read:

hope this helps!

Actually followed up on the ballast, when i got the tray pulled out and fired it up to see what was really going on there was bright blue sparks shooting out of a resistor on the corner of the ballast board. Re-soldered a heavier duty resistor in place of the old one and is working like a champ. Thanks for the input!

wow, great fix JJG!!!

be careful when resetting the lamp hour timer if you are using different specs on the ballast! you do not want to short out your lamp!

other than that cheers on a job well done!
