Hi,
I have a Samsung HL-S5687W purchased 30th November 2006 from circuit city with 3 year warranty. Lately my bulb start to under-perform and also had some intermitent issues in my HDMI connection where the source is working nicely but the TV wouldn’t recognize it suddenly and after a couple of minutes of shutting down the TV and switching it back it would be okay. When I contacted for the warranty service they said they will replace the bulb and a AV connector PCB which could be causing the issue. It was done on 20th of June 2009.
After the technician left a hour after the TV presented a new set of issues, now the TV if it runs for a while
1) It starts shutting down automatically with yellow colored grid appearing just before it shuts down and then starts all by itself.
2)This repeats at around every 30 second and when this continues for say 8-10 time it shuts of the TV completely and at which point you power it back up, by unplugging and plugging back the power cord.
3)Once powered back up it’s back to step 1 after 4-5 minutes
4)After going through this routine a bunch of times, say 5-6 times the TV loses it’s ability to communicate with any remote and even it’s front panel button becomes disabled.
I have gone really crazy with this thing happening. I will try and post the image of yellow grid if possible by tomorrow.

Wow, that seems to be the digital board, check if when that grid appears you can display the TV menu, if so, then replace it.

Thanks for the reply, I am not able to access the menu or anything during that moment. I am still under Circuit City Advantage Protection plan and the technician from Sears is set to come in on 30th of this month, but should I be aware of anything that they do.

Well so far :x frusturations abound, the technician arrived on the said date and said the DMD board has gone bad and he is going to order the part and the sears technician who is through my warranty company stated that technician from Samsung will come the coming friday 7/10 and will fix it. But we got a call from Sears on monday 7/6 that the warranty company wants Sears to fix it not Samsung so they are planning to come on 7/15 at this point to fix it. So we are without our TV for a while and it's really irritating. By the way what is the success rate of the DMD board getting replaced and the TV is fixed? any idea. I don't want to get burned again on this. Because I will make sure the warranty people stand by their word on giving another TV of the same or equivalent model.
