I have a Sammy HLP5063W that is about 4-5 years old. It is definitely within the timeframe for the lamp to go. My wife was watching the TV the other day and it stopped working. She described it as “all of a sudden there was this loud vibrational noise and the screen went all striated and then all black”. She turned off the power on the TV, unplugged it for a minute, plugged it in again and the noise came back even though the power was off. I took a look at it when i got home, but there doesn’t seem to be anything happening with it. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Is it a blown lamp, or maybe the color wheel?

Hi Everybody, I’ve been searching here before I bought a replacement bulb for my DLP but now I actually need to post a question.

So I ordered a new bulb from discount merchant and installed it, it worked for 3 hours and then my TV quit on me. I took out the bulb….once it cooled and looked at it, It did not have the broken glass in it that was present in the bulb it replaced so I assumed it was okay. I looked up stuff online, read the troubleshooting tips that came with my new bulb and called DM about the problem. All the advise suggested that the ballast was bad and needed replaced. For reference the TV attempts to turn on, plays the melody and there are a series of clicking noises then the TV powers down and powers up again with the same noises and results, there is no light from the screen and the picture was fine before it died, no weird colors or anything.

So I ordered a new ballast from Sears and installed it and the lamp, and nothing has changed, same sounds. I want to be convinced that the bulb has failed but I thought I would turn to you guys before spending anymore money.

Thanks in advance,

 -Pat

Yesterday, I noticed that my HLP6163 started flickering a lot with colors totally off. I tried switching video inputs and I kept getting the same thing. So I turned it off, let it sit for about a half hour, and then turned it back on. I got sound but no video as the tv cycled through 3 times automatically of turning it off and on, and on each attempt I could hear the fan (or at least that’s what I think it is) struggle to turn on properly, until finally I got the dreaded 3 blinking lights. I turned it off again, only this time by pulling out the power cord as well. This morning, I plugged it back in, turned it on, and the tv cycled 3 times just like yesterday, but the faint fan noise was now a loud, distinct humm that pitched up and down. I have no idea what’s wrong. I suspect it to be the lamp, but I just got a new one put in on 8/17/07 (BP9600826A from samsungparts.com) and I’ve never heard of this loud humming noise before. From reading the posts, maybe I need to get a new fan or colorwheel as well?

I’ve had my tv for almost two years. About a year ago my son kept turning the tv on and off and after a while the tv shutdown and three lights started blinking. In the manual it’s code for bad lamp. I unplugged the tv and turned it back on and everything was fine or so I thought. For the past year if I turn off the tv I have to wait 5 to 10mintuesto turn it back on or I get the blinking lights in which I have to unplug and let sit. Now the other day I turned it on, after sitting for a couple days and it trys three times to start and then the three lights, unplugged the tv but this time it didn’t work. I purchased a new bulb put it in and still it trys to come on then the three blinking lights.

I have a Samsung HLS5088W. It was bought in Nov 2006. I had some trouble with it shutting itself off. We could watch TV for a while and then all of the sudden it would just shut off. Usually it would just cycle power and come right back on. A couple weeks ago it stopped coming back on. The TV would either not turn on or if it did get started it would run for 30 or 45 minutes and then shut down and couldn’t turn itself back on. I purchased a new bulb and replaced it on Friday. The first time we turned the TV on it didn’t turn on right away and still had the same problem. We got the TV to turn on twice with little hassle and it would run for longer than the usual 30 or 45 minutes but it is still acting up. It just did the old trick of not turning back on at all.

When the TV is running the picture is perfect with both the old and new bulbs. The TV has plenty of room behind it so I wouldn’t think that it was overheating. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?

Thanks,

Ryan

I need step-by-step instructions on how to access the lamp fan in my 27-month-old Samsung HLR5067W. After speaking with Samsung, the loud humming noise I hear when turning on the television is caused by an inoperable fan. I replaced the lamp two months ago. I ordered both the lamp fan (3 1/4 BP31-00010B) and the DMD Board Cooling Fan (BP31-00011A). Had no problem replacing the DMD fan; but the lamp fan is behind the lamp and barely visible. I am hesitant about indiscriminately removing screws to get at the fan. If anyone knows exactly what I need to do to safely remove and replace the fan, I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks,
