Sony XL-2100U “How-To” Guide – Replacement Projection LCD TV Lamp
This guide is being published to show how easy it is to replace your original Sony XL-2100U Lamp.
NORMAL DISCLAIMER:
— Do NOT purchase generic brand lamps such as LTI, APO or third-party manufacturers such as OSRAM. These lamps were NOT engineered with and for your TV…only your Philips lamp has been engineered to work flawlessly and output the best possible color. Above that, it just doesn’t make sense to choose an aftermarket lamp for a $5-$10 difference (and in many cases they are more expensive!!). Be a smart consumer and do your research! Discount-Merchant.com promises to be the low price leader in all Projection TV Lamps they carry…if this is not true, let us know and we’ll fix it!
Necessities:
1. Standard Philips & Flathead screwdrivers
2. Pair of Pliers
3. A new Philips Lamp
4. 15 minutes of your time
IMPORTANT: The bulb should be handled with a clean cloth at all times to avoid any dirt or oil. Our hands are naturally oily…this is a no-no for these lamps. It doesn’t hurt to do a final wipe with a clean, non-abrasive, lent free cloth before reinstalling your lamp…
Here is the Sony Lamp Enclosure, remember you can click on any image to enlarge!
Step 1: First thing we need to remove is the metal cage by remove the two screws above…
Gently pull off the metal cage to reveal your Philips lamp…here’s a close up picture.
Now we need to unscrew the connector as shown below…
Now you should be able to slide the lamp out of the enclosure…
With the metal cage off, we can see our lamp and the screws holding it down…
Now will use our Philips screwdriver to remove this terminal…then we’ll use our pliers to remove the other terminal, as shown below…
Here are the lamps side-by-side…just don’t get them mixed up, usually there’s no physical difference between a new and old lamp…
Now it’s re-assembly time! Let’s screw in the terminals on the new lamp!
NOTE: Be careful when screwing-in the side connector on to your new lamp. It’s best to hand torque as this one as it is very sensitive and might break with a lot of torque.
Remember not over tighten these connectors. Afterwards, slide the lamp into the enclosure so that the connector lines up in its approperiate place…
Here’s our new lamp! Almost done…just a few more screws to go!
After we tighten the connector screws in place we’ll reinstall the metal cage that covers the lamp…
Your all done…here’s the finished product! 10-15 mins MAX!

greeting,
I need a lamp similar to this but I am not sure if this would work with my system, my old lamp has a differnt part number, here is what is writen on my unit:
Top 228 A5
UHP 100w/120w 1.0
Phillips
Made in Belguim
101216607
Please let me know if your lamp would be a good replacement, pleasse note that my system is 220V
Hi, I have recently bought a philips 100/120w UHP lamp for my brothers KF42-SX300U from Ebay.I fitted it and although the TV starts up now, the picture is very dull.I tried the lamp in my working TV (I have the same one) and again, dull picture.I fitted the lamp from my TV into his one and the TV works fine, so we know the TV is ok.
I thought the lamp must be faulty, so I got an exchange, but the exchange one still gave a dull picture.I note that although the new lamp is identical in size, wattage etc, the original Sony lamp has a blue tinge to it, whereas the replacement does not.
The supplier has assured me that it is the correct type, so am I missing something here? Is there a setting or engineers adjustment for lamp type? How can one Philips UHP 100/120W lamp differ from the next?
Any help would be gratefully received, Thanks, Rob.
I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Sony XL-2100U “How-To” Guide – Replacement Projection LCD TV Lamp, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
I’m not impressed with a 90 day warranty because I just wasted my money with a LaptopsForLess replacement that blew just after that short warranty. There are several vendors selling the bulb with a 1 year warranty, free shipping, and the same or slightly less expensive than Discount-Merchant. Adding all of those factors up I think a better buy would be from
After a call to Discount-Merchant to inquire further, they said that they actually are the supplier for and that only sells the OSRAM lamps (not the higher quality Philips lamps). However, because of their confidence in the Philips lamps, they had no problem with offering me a 1 year warranty instead of their standard extra 90 day extension. That was comforting to me because I just had a cheap OEM lamp shatter after only 4 months of use. So I’m a big fan of Discount-Merchant.com now. They have great customer service, are very knowledgable, and were willilng to be competitive even though that already have the best prices for the highest quality components.
