Syntax Olevia LCT50HV LAMP – Where can I find one?

The Olevia LCT50HV TV was produced by parent company Syntax Brillian (trading under BRLC). The company went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year after defaulting on numerous loans. Per SEC filings in February of 2008, Syntax owed creditors more than $130 million! Today, Syntax-Brillian’s brands: Olevia & Vivitar are owned by a new corporation Olevia International Group, LLC, which falls under the umbrella of TCV Group. In short, it’s all a big mess, and that’s why there are no replacement parts available for these TVs!

Why is it so difficult to find the replacement lamp for these Syntax Olevia TVs?
For one, these use a special type of lamp not common among LCOS, DLP, or D-ILA TVs. The typical lamp TV lamp has an ignition voltage of 15,000-20,000 volts. The Olevia’s prefer a lamp that ignites at 5,000 volts, hence, the lamps are not compatible. Today, it is extremely difficult finding these replacement lamps or any other spare parts for that matter. Samsung HLS7178 – Weird Intermittent Startup Noise

Hi everyone,

Descrition of problem:
The noise from the video is consistent (in duration and sound), and it happens every 6 or 7 times the set is powered up. If it is one of those times it makes the noise at start-up, it also makes a quick “cough” at shut-down (one quick burst of the noise in the video).

Aside from this noise, the set works/functions perfectly as far as I can tell (even during the times it makes the noise on startup, everything seems fine once the noise stops). It appears to me that the brightness level/output may be lower when the noise happens, but I cannot be 100% sure of that. Best Buy had sent out a very poorly trained technician at one point who thought the noise may have been the color wheel, but he disconnected the color wheel and was still able to recreate the sound. The only way to reliably recreate the sound is to go into the Service Menu and adjust the DB Gain setting – if I do that and jog the value up/down, eventually I hear this same noise.

I think an important thing to note is that there’s no middle-ground on this noise; it either completely makes the exact same noise on start-up, or it starts up/shuts down whisper-quiet. There’s never just “a little bit” of the noise.

This behavior started after a tech had come to fix an “image flickering” issue in November 2007; at that time, she replaced the ballast and the Dynamic Black Assembly. The flickering went away, but this intermittent noise began. I contacted Best Buy and got a replacement lamp sent out to me to see if that was the issue, but the noise still happens with the new lamp.

My gut says this is an issue with the Dynamic Black assembly, but I want to be sure it’s that if I get someone to come out and replace it again (I really want to avoid a whole LE replacement, as the set is calibrated).

Any thoughts?

Samsung HLP5063W shut down

I’ve got a Samsung HLP5063W in service since January 2005 with 10,600 hours on the original lamp (smaller square lamp). About a month ago it started shutting down about 1-2 times a week. It came right back up when turned back on. This week, it’s shutting off every 20-40 minutes. It comes back up instantly when re-powered. All through-out this, the picture has been crystal clear, so I wonder if it is really the lamp that needs to be replaced.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks, Bill.

There are some Samsung DLP-TV production series that use two different kind of color wheel in the optic system, one is a ball bearing based system and the other is an air suspension system.

While the two color wheels have the same diameter and look the same they are not compatible in any way, and cannot be swapped.

The only way around this is to change the complete housing and wheel from one type and replace it with the other complete assembly type.

To do this you must firs consider the following conditions.

If you wish to use the BP900674A color wheel with its respective original housing in a TV that has an air suspension system you must insert a jumper on the pin connectors “CN810”. This will let the TV’s bios know to change the timing of the color wheel.
On the contrary, if you want to use the air suspension system with its respective original housing in a TV that has a ball bearing based system you must remove the jumper on the “CN810” pin connectors.

Remember:

Ball bearing based system Color Wheel: Jumper inserted in the “CN810” pin connectors.

Algunas producciones de TV- DLP Samsung utilizaron 2 tipos de Color wheel en el ensamblado del sistema optico , un color wheel con giro a base de balero/BP900674A ( "embalado " ) y otro con sistema de suspension de aire.

Aunque ambos color wheel’s son del mismo diametro y muy similares estos no son compatibles entre si y no se pueden intercambiar.

La unica manera de intercambio entre ambos es utilizandolos en conjunto con sus receptaculos originales y observando las siguientes condiciones:

1.- Si requiere utilizar el color wheel BP900674A / "montado en su receptaculo original" , en un televisor que tiene un color wheel de suspension de aire, debera poner en corto los pines del conector CN810.

2.- Por el contrario si requiere utilizar el conjunto de color wheel / Aire , en un televisor que tiene un color wheel /"embalado" , entonces debera retirar el corto de los pines del conector CN810.

En conclusion :

A: Color Wheel/ "Embalado" : los pines del conector CN810 deberan estar en corto.

B: Color Wheel/Aire : los pines del conector CN810 deberan estar abiertos.

El color wheel embalado # parte : BP900674A , BP67-0099A , lo puede reemplazar en caso de rotura o falla , utilizando su receptaculo original.

Samsung DLP Won’t Turn On & Customer Service Doesn’t Respond

Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing this letter because I have some time while I wait for my Samsung HL-R4266W DLP TV to start working again. On random days (usually two days out of seven) your product just doesn’t work. Well actually the projection lamp does turn on, but there is no picture and no sound. After waiting about 30 minutes sometimes the unit will then turn on correctly. Other times I pull the plug and wait and it sometimes comes on.
The indicator lights are of no help to diagnose this intermittent problem.
On September 1, 2008 I spoke with the 800 726 7864 customer service line. After about 30 minutes of being passed around I have Trans # and the advice to call Mort’s TV a Samsung authorized service center. On September 15^th, the customer service line finally admitted that their only function was to get the TV connected. They can’t and don’t help diagnose problems.
Mort’s TV was somewhat helpful. They indicated that we should not bring the set in until it was failing a majority of the time, as they can’t diagnose a two out of seven problem. Oh, and the bench charge is a minimum of $100 plus the unknown price of parts and labor to be determined.
So bottom line I own one of your products that doesn’t turn on 2/7 of the time, that isn’t supported by the customer line and can’t be diagnosed by your authorized service center. That is NOT a recipe for me to purchase replacement or additional Samsung products in the future.
SO HERE IS WHAT I WANT. I’d like to speak with a technically savvy Samsung engineer familiar with the product who can interpret the various trouble lights and offer an opinion of what may be wrong and a hint of how and how much it may cost to repair.
