The LG 42PX4D is a high definition television which uses the plasma technology and has a screen size of 42 inches when measured diagonally. The cabinet is well designed and has plenty of style and elegance. It is predominantly silver in color and a shiny black frame is used to house the screen. The inbuilt speakers like in most cases have been placed at the sides of the screen. The set offers plenty of input options to hookup the external devices. Although the set is not exactly cheap, it is not far off the average price either.

The best thing about the LG 42PX4D is the black level which is as low as 0.027 ft-L which is very high for a plasma. The set offers one of the highest black levels for a plasma television till date even though it falls well short of what the CRT’s are capable of generating. The performance of the set would have been one to watch out for except for the colors. Even though the colors are not bad, they certainly are not accurate. The Panasonic TH-42PX500U is a high definition television that uses the plasma technology and has a screen size of 42 inches when measured diagonally. This model is the successor for the Panasonic TH-42PX25 which delivered a stellar performance and also won most of the awards for the best flat panel display. The two have plenty in common although the Panasonic TH-42PX500U is more of a budget model with the massive decrease in prices. To call them similar is a stark understatement. It seems to be a case of old wine in a new bottle. Come to think of it the bottle is not all that new either as the dimensions and styling of the cabinet has more or less remained the same.

The native display resolution of the set is 1280 by 720 that is also known as 720p. Unlike the previous models, the Panasonic TH-42PX500U accepts 720p signals through both the component as well as DVI inputs. The black levels offered by the set are simply fantastic. The set has been provided with plenty of functions including the CableCard slot which enables the user to view Cable TV without having to go for additional set top boxes. The remote does most of the things that it is supposed to and is backlit. However the direct input access is missing.

The Panasonic TH-50PZ700U is a high definition television, which has a screen size of 50 inches and uses the plasma technology. The Panasonic TH-50PZ700U also has a smaller 42-inch version and the difference in the performance of both the sets goes to show that the 1080p is not necessary for smaller screen sizes. The glossy black finish to the cabinet gives it a little more style and elegance.

The native display resolution offered by the set is 1920 by 1080, which is also known as 1080p. It also accepts all resolutions upto 1080p however; the 1080p is available only through the HDMI and not component. The colors given by the Panasonic TH-50PZ700U are rich and deep although in some scenes the greens and reds are oversaturated. This is a problem seen with most of the flat panel displays. The noise reduction feature seemed to make the images a lot softer. Panasonic has provided the set with plenty of inputs to hookup all your external devices to and all of them are located on the backside of the cabinet.

Overall, the set offers fantastic performance although the black levels could have been better. The detail levels displayed by the set are commendable even though the contrast levels are average. The strong performance for a relatively moderate price makes the set an attractive option and is certainly worth a look.

Samsung HP-T4264 42 inch Plasma HDTV

The Samsung HP-T4264 is a high definition television, which uses the plasma technology and has a screen size of 42 inches when measured diagonally. It was priced at somewhere around $1400 at the time of release. Samsung do not seem to have spent much time on the styling of the set as the all black, thin bezel cabinet is very modest and does lack a few curves.

The full display resolution offered by the set is 1280 by 720, which is also known as 720p. It accepts all the input signals upto 1080i. In case of inputs having resolutions different from the native resolution, the images are scaled to fit the available pixel area. Even though the performance of the Samsung HP-T4264 was not bad, it was such that left plenty of scope for improvement. The ease of use, more than reasonable price, great specifications and plenty of features however, are more than capable of putting this set onto your shopping lists.

While most of the inputs re located at the back, some of them have also been provided at the side for easy access. The set also boasts of an HDMI connector and even a USB slot. The USB slot enables the user to view photos or videos or listen to audio files directly from the USB device. The remote is quite handy with a few of the buttons being backlit.

The Samsung HL-S5087W is high definition television, which uses the DLP technology has a screen size of 50 inches when measured diagonally. The price of the set makes it a luxury purchase for most of the buyers. However, its performance may well convince you spend that little bit more. The cabinet is very sleek and eye-catching. It has a very thin bezel, is fully black with a glossy finish except for the silver strip at the bottom of the screen (above the power button) which is used to hide the controls.

The full display resolution offered by the set is 1920 by 1080, which is the highest available today. The colors offered by the set were excellent, rich and yet very natural. The detail levels given by the set were exceptional with all the details clearly visible even in the background. Even the detail levels in the darker scenes were more than impressive and left us more than impressed. Even standard definition telecasts made quite an impact on the set. The Samsung HL-S5087W did not score an average in any of the tests but was more than good in all of them.

The audio quality is good although it fails to match the excellent video quality. However, the provision of the audio out connection can be used to good effect with just a little bit of knowledge. Overall, the Samsung HL-S5087W is the set to go for if you can swallow the price.

Do you have an RCA (or other brand) DLP that has this lamp inside? If yes, there are a couple of things I immediately know about your TV set:

1) Your DLP set is probably less than two years old…and the lamp has failed prematurely.
2) You’re extremely upset about this…afterall, you purchased this DLP Set because you thought it would be trouble-free for 3-4 years.
3) You had no idea you were getting an inferior product. Most quality TV Manufacturer’s use Philips brand or Panasonic brand lamps. Your manufacture went with the lower prices OSRAM lamp, so you got stuck with an inferior product.
4) You wish you lamp lasted longer…or at least wished there was something you could do to make it last longer!

First of all, you’re not stuck with the OSRAM lamp. As long as you lamp is a:

Sony BRAVIA KDL-V32XBR1 32 inch LCD TV

The Sony KDL-V32XBR1 is a high definition television set that has a screen size of 32 inches when measured diagonally and uses the LCD technology. The native display resolution of the set is 1366 by 768, which is enough to display all input signals at 720p. However, it can accept all input signals upto 1080i. In such cases, the input images are scaled to fit the available pixel area. The swivel base made it quite easy to operate and watch from wherever you are sitting.

Excellent colors which are very rich and vivid was one of the strong points of the Sony KDL-V32XBR1. Surprisingly the set fared a lot better when showing standard definition content than high definition content. The set lacked quite a bit in the details especially while watching high definition content or DVD’s. The audio quality was excellent and held its own during all the tests. The SRS TruSurround features gives very high quality sound with high effects and surround sound capabilities. The provision of the USB slot enables the user to view photographs or movies directly from the USB device.

The set offers excellent features most of which are pricey making it more of a luxury model. Although the image quality given by the set is good, it falls a little short of a few lower priced LCD televisions – some of them from Sony itself.

The Sony KDL-40V2500 is a high definition television, which uses the LCD technology and has a screen size of 40 inches when measured diagonally. The design of the set is extremely sleek and will surely add to your room’s décor with its elegant styling. The cabinet is predominantly silver in color and has a very thin bezel, which is black. The use of these dual colors gives the cabinet a contrasting look that is quite appealing. A stand has also been included with the set and is colored to match the set (silver).

The Sony KDL-40V2500 has a high contrast ratio of 1300:1. The set offers a full display resolution of 1920 by 1080 also called as 1080p and is the highest available resolution available today. The dimensions of the set are 39 inches in width, 28 inches in width, while the depth is slightly less than 10 ½ inches. The set tips the weigh scales at just a tad less than 53 pounds, which is quite remarkable.

The cabinet is very well design and looks very elegant inspite of the wide bezel. The all black cabinet has been kept very clean with input and controls being hidden. Most of the input interfaces are located at the back while some of them have been provided at the sides for easy access.

The full display resolution of the Panasonic TH-42PV700U is 1920 by 1080 also called as the 1080p, which is the highest native display resolution available today. It is one of the very few plasmas having a display resolution of 1080p to beat most of the other sets in picture quality. The quality of the images was clinical especially while viewing high definition content or disc-based content. The standard definition content was not all that impressive mainly because the colors were a bit less vibrant.

Panasonic as usual has packed the set with plenty of input interfaces to which you can hookup your external devices. The sheer number of inputs ensures that a few inputs will still be left empty even after connecting all the devices. The menu system is a little hard to use. Overall the Panasonic TH-42PV700U does lack when it comes to features but is a sure buy if your focus is on picture quality.
