The Panasonic TH-50PZ750U is a 50 inch television set which uses the plasma technology. This set is from one of the first groups of 50 inch plasma televisions which were capable of displaying 1080p. Even though it is not the least expensive but any plasma that is priced at less than $4000 is worth taking a look.

The full display resolution as stated above is 1920 by 1080 which is also called as 1080p. the inbuilt speaker system has the speakers hidden inside the bezel. The audio system though falls quite short of the mark as it gets overloaded even at moderate sound levels. The warm color setting offers colors which are very vivid and close to the ideal although a little calibration is necessary for optimum performance. With most of the people (wrongly) assuming that the oversaturated picture is the better picture, it won’t be a surprise if plenty of them like this set. The set also produced highly sharp and detailed images with very little optical noise alongwith excellent black levels and contrast ratios.

The set is well featured with plenty of inputs as well as controls. The set has a ATSC tuner in addition to the QAM tuner. A VGA input interface has also been provided in case you want to hook up your PC or laptop to the TV set. On the front panel there is a SD slot which may be used to view digital photographs directly. The remote has plenty of features and the buttons are laid out well although the remote is not backlit.

The Panasonic TH-50PX600U is a high definition television which uses the plasma technology and has a 50 inch screen size when measured diagonally. Just like most of the other companies diverting their attention towards a single technology in particular, it seems that Panasonic has placed its best bet on the plasmas and to good effect. Panasonic are selling the majority of the plasma TV’s in most countries with the competitors left far behind. And Panasonic and plasmas both seem to be here to stay which means that Panasonic will continue having this good run for quite a while.

The plasma technology offers much superior picture quality than most other technologies although it is a bit costlier at the moment. The Panasonic TH-50PX600U has a predominantly silver cabinet with a silver frame used to house the screen. The full display resolution of the set is 1366 by 768 which is slightly higher than 720p. All the input signals are scaled to fit the native display resolution. The screen of the set is highly reflective and certainly poses a few problems if you have a bright room. As is the case with most of the plasmas the reds are overly saturated. The black levels could have been better even while considering the plasmas.

The remote is the bare minimum and lacks quite a few buttons as well as backlighting. The set has plenty of features like the inclusion of the CableCard slot. This enables the user to watch cable TV without buying additional set top boxes. All in all most of the problems are not easily visible during daily viewing.

The Panasonic TH-50PX25U/P 50 inch (when measured diagonally) high definition television and uses the plasma technology. Panasonic may not be the best when it comes to the CRT TV’s but there performance with the plasmas has been exceptional. The cabinet of the set is very well designed and packs in plenty of style. The screen has been fitted into a black frame of the predominantly silver cabinet. It does seem to be a trend though of using weird names for the top of the line sets as the Panasonic has come up with Viera just like Sony had Wega. Quite meaningless but catchy and effective!

The set is 5.5 inches in depth which is slightly fat for a plasma but really not worth losing your sleep over it. The full native resolution of the set is 1366 by 768 which is slightly more than 720p. All the input signals are scale to fit the available pixel area. The bottom third of the set was much darker than the top third which is a problem seen with quite a few plasmas. In the colors, the red was slightly oversaturated although these problems will hardly be noticed during normal viewing.

The remote is completely backlit which will have a few users breathing a sigh of relief especially while watching at night. The set has plenty of features including both digital as well as analog tuners. The inclusion of the CableCard slot makes it easier to connect to cable TV without going in for additional set top boxes.

The Panasonic TH-50PX25U/P delivers high quality performance which gives you complete satisfaction bar a few minor deficiencies.

The Panasonic TH-50PHW3 is one of the top of the line plasma televisions and has a 50 inch screen size when measured diagonally. The set is costing somewhere around 11 to 12 grand which makes it a prospect only for the super rich. With most of the plasmas today costing between $3000 and $4000 (even though not all that cheap) but much more accessible to the middle class.

The full display resolution of the set is 1366 by 768 which is just a bit higher than 720p. The difference between the horizontal resolutions is not big enough to be differentiable. All the input signals are scaled to fit the native resolution. The set gives an aspect ratio of 16:9. The dimensions of the set are 47.6 inches in width, 28.5 inches in height and 3.9 inches in depth. The set weighs in at less than 100 pounds which is quite commendable. The small depth of the set is sure to catch the attention of plenty of people as it makes the set look very sleek.

The performance of the set is much more than noteworthy. Out of the box the set offers an excellent picture with really high brightness and sharpness. With a little bit of calibration (which I am sure that you will be able to do at home) the picture showed even the finest of details. Some of the plasmas show excessive video noise especially during dark scenes but the picture of the Panasonic TH-50PHW3 was quite stable and did not show any noise. Even though the set has better black levels than most other plasmas some of the details during the dark scenes were lost which is a fault with the plasma technology itself.

The latest generation of Samsung lamp based Projection DLP TVs utilitize one of two enclosures: either the BP96-01472A or the BP96-01653A Enclosure.  Both enclosures cover the HLS and HLT Series DLP sets.

The Samsung BP96-01653A Enclosure is powered by a Philips “e22” style lamp, operating at 132W / 120W watts.  It’s a 1.0mm arc lamp and its mean life is rated between 6,000-7,000 hours.  That equates to roughly 3 to 3 1/2 years.  Remember, this is the MEAN…we’ve seen a range between 2,000 to 30,000 hours on UHP lamps.  Information on how you can extend the life of your projection tv lamp, click here: 7 Tips for extending RPTV lamp life.

The Zenith P60W26P is a high definition plasma monitor and has a 60 inch screen size when measured diagonally. It is priced at just a little more than 14 grand and even if the price has reduced considerably there is enough evidence to say that big screen plasmas are not for the common man. Apart from the price the performance of the widescreen monitor is fantastic although it can’t be said that it justifies the price. The cabinet is all silver and looks very elegant.

The full native resolution of the Zenith P60W26P is 1280 by 720 which means that all the input signals will be scaled and the picture will be displayed at 720p. The set is very quiet in terms of the fan noise (it does irritate a few people more than the others) and gives excellent picture out of the box. The set does have a few screen burn in problems in which some of the images from the previous channels are visible (even though faded) especially after changing to a channel having a darker image. This problem though will not affect daily viewing as a bright image will have to be on screen for a really long time which is quite rare.

The detail levels given by the set are extremely high with the smallest of detail being easily visible. The remote has plenty of features and is easy to use although it is not backlit which is disappointing. Two external speakers are also available and can be connected to the sides of the screen.

The Hitachi 42HDT52 has a 42 inch screen size when measured diagonally and uses the plasma technology. The cabinet looks fantastic with the all black design. The set comes with a table top swivel stand which is electric. This means that you can control the swivel by using the remote. Talk about fascinating features and I guess this one should top the list. Hitachi as such has been into the production of plasmas for a long time and knows the technology inside out which is certainly not a bad thing.

The depth of the set is around 4.25 inches is slightly more for a plasma but certainly not fat enough to make you pull your hair out. The full display resolution of the set is 1024 by 1024 which means that all input signals are scaled to fit the native resolution. The remote has plenty of features and thankfully is fully backlit which makes it easy to use in the dark. The colors were excellent although the reds were a bit more saturated. As most of the plasmas this set too suffers as the black levels fall short quite a bit.

Hitachi has loaded the set with plenty of features which help to give the user a better viewing experience. It is equipped with a digital as well as analog tuner. The provision of a CableCard slot eliminates the need to go for additional set top boxes for viewing cable TV. The two inbuilt speakers which are mounted inside the cabinet on both sides of the screen offer a total output of 40 watts along with the amplification.

The Samsung HLM617W is a rear projection monitor which uses the DLP technology and has a 61 inch screen size when measured diagonally. The native resolution of the set is 1280 by 720 which makes it capable of displaying all the input all the input sources at 720p. Any other inputs which are having different display resolutions are scaled to fit the available pixel area.

The brightness levels of the set go as high as anybody would want them to go and really cannot be faulted. The use of the HD2 chipset did increase the black levels quite significantly although in general the DLP technology does seem to struggle while producing deep shades of black. The high brightness and substantial black levels played a major part in the high contrast ratios offered by the set. The black levels retention offered by the set too is very good. The colors of the Samsung HLM617W are very accurate and the errors if any are not noticeable to the human eye.

The features offered by the set include the provision of a PC input which enables the user to connect the PC to the television. Now don’t tell me it’s not fun to play or work on such a huge screen! One of the major advantages of doing this is the fact that the DLP technology does not suffer from image burn in or other hazards associated with most other technologies.

The Samsung HCJ655W is a high definition television having a 65-inch screen size when measured diagonally. Although Samsung has been late to join the rear projection market, they have made plenty of progress thereafter. This set is Samsungs top of the line digital television. Digital television means that the set receives and decodes the signals from the broadcaster internally. The set displays all input signals with a display resolution of 1080 interlaced lines.

To get the best picture though, it is better to connect the set to your system. As far as the performance of the set is concerned, the picture is very accurate. The black levels are very deep and are quite consistent. The colors decoded by the set are natural and accurate although the images do seem to be very slightly bluish. The calibration of the set really improves the performance to a great extent which makes it worth the trouble. The display is slightly grainny and is the only problem that is worth mentioning.

The set offers plenty of inputs to attach your devices to and yet have plenty of them being empty. The menu system of the set is very attractive and easy to use and has most of the functions and controls, which a user may require to get the optimum performance. The remote too is very well designed and fits into the hands very nicely. The major buttons can be located very easily without having to look for them.
